Traveling with a 3 month old

So we will be taking our DD abroad on Boxing Day to visit family that live in Asia. She will be 3 months old at the time. I'm looking for advice regarding general tips for flying with a 3 month old and going abroad tips. But I also am curious about anyone's experience flying with emirates ? I bottle feed DD and I'm not sure how you go about bottle feeding on a flight so info and advice on that would be great ? It's two 7 hour flights with a 3 hour delay in between. Thank you in advance Smile

They're easy to fly with at that age, so don't worry. Especially easy if you're breastfeeding, otherwise take way more formula and bottles (sterilizing stuff) as babies are more snacky with all the stimulation and disruption. Definitely take a sling on board - if baby has a bad flight you'll spend a lot of time walking the aisles and you'll need it.

Ah I see you're bottle feeding. You can get little containers that are big enough to steralize bottles in, with tablets, one at a time. But take lots of bottles as well as you dont want to be scrambling with a crying baby. You can take formula through customs. I'd suggest taking lots of those bottles of made up formula, or at least some, as it can get tricky measuring formula or waiting for water to cool.

Baby gets a carry on bag even if they don't have a seat, so load up a wheely suitcase with everything.

Also take lots of changes of clothes for baby. And some for you in case you get sicked on.

Take extras of everything else too (nappies, wipes), so you could survive a12-24 hour delay somewhere.

I have 3DDs and did a lot of flying with them as babies as we lived in SE Asia for many years. Generally I found when they were that tiny it was pretty easy as they fitted easily into the bassinette and just fed & slept. (Older babies & toddlers are much more of a nightmare as they get bored). My top tip would be to feed the baby during take-off & landing because it helps with the change of pressure in their ears and the pain this can cause. I was always breastfeeding but I have seen other parents ask to have bottles warmed up and staff are very accommodating, though we always flew Singapore Airlines so I'm afraid I've no experience of Emirates. Good luck!

Hiya I just came back from holiday with my 5month year old and I was really anxious about how the travel and being abroad would be like, but much to my surprise LO coped very well and adapted very well as well..so I reckon your 3month year old would be more easier to handle as they don't do much at that age apart from eat and poo and sleep..

A few tips I learned and would say are :

On the flight at take of and landing feed baby so that the sucking motion helps with the pressure in her ears

Take along some of your LO favourite things for the plane and hotel e.g toys, black and white books, download cartoons beforehand on your phone or iPad if LO likes

The only difficulty that LO faced was the time difference which disrupted sleep routine esp when we came back home

Apart from that all good!

Hope you have a lovely time!

Yes to everything above.
Take more nappies and milk than you think you need.
Take a spare set of clothes for everyone (and possibly more than that for baby).
Sling.
Dubai has loads of strollers around the airport, but they are little McLaren ones, and not really great for tinies - straps often dodgy.
Emirates are great, but not used them with a baby, it formula fed, so can't help with those bits, sorry.

3m is a great time to fly. We took ready to feed formula and lots of sterilized bottles. Then for when there get a tub and some milton tablets (or microwave mam bottles) No problem getting it through security as they have a special scanner for baby things. I'd suggest a sling for getting through the airport.

Emirates are great. We fly with them all the time and have found staff very helpful. Request a bassinet seat so that hopefully you can put baby in it for naps. If she won't sleep in it at least they are good for storing all the baby junk you need. 3 months is a fab age to travel long distances as they generally still sleep quite a lot so you can watch movies. Have an amazing time!
