10 month old dd won't poo in nappy. should I use a potty or just keep on catching it?

for the last few weeks my dd hasn't pooed in her nappy. she makes a straining noise but straightens her legs to make sure nothing comes out. am worried that it hurts her to poo and have taken her to Drs but they were quite dismissive. She poos every day but only with her nappy off and me holding her legs! when my mum found out she got us a potty and dd has used it 3 times fairly succesfully. (she has a v small bum and can fall in ) but it feels wrong. She isn't telling me she wants to poo. She is probably only aware of pooing because its unpleasant for her...

am I looking a gift horse in the mouth? surely at 10 months (and this has been going on for over a month) she can't be ready for a potty?

still not unclogged I feel so sorry for her

it is also my understanding that you can't overdose on lactulose. it doesn't seem to do anything though she is up to 16ml per day now.

Boredveryverybored- my dd is SN and it has crossed my mind that it could be related to her condition. I really don't know though. its a neurological problem she inherited from me. For me its affects my eyes, hands and feet. So far we can only tell that hey eyes are affected but she has feeding difficulties which may or may not be related...

Hi Entropy, just caught up with this. My dd's problems with her bowels are due to neuro probs, her bladder is also affected. But with her a lot of nerves were damaged beyond repair because her spinal cord got tethered (long and boring explanaion - won't go into it!)

Anyways, if the lactulose is not enough, I can tell you what we use? Maybe it will help.

After lactulose we used senna syrup if she was still blocked, again with that I'm not sure about max doses etc, but I was just given a load and told to use trial and error and my own judgement on dosage. Between the senna and the laculose we pretty much always got her going when she was smaller.
It's worth asking GP about it, because the last thing you need is to end up in hospital with her -been there and done that it really wasn' much fun!
(would also suggest not bothering to mesure out doses with the lactulose, I stopped pretty early on. I had a couple of days where I literally just gave spoonful after spoonful until she wouldn't take any more, and did it every hour or so.
She must have had gallons of the stuff, but it worked!)
