Egg allergy

Advice please. My 7 month old gets a mild rash around his face after eating eggs. He doesn't seem to be bothered in any other way by them and the rash fades within a couple of hours. Should I stop giving him eggs for the time being and try introduce them again later? Or just continue with the occasional bit of egg because it's a mild reaction and their a good protein source?

I wouldn’t keep giving him eggs if you think he’s allergic. I’d go to the GP, they’ll probably refer you to a Paediatric Dietician.

You could see if he gets a reaction to baked egg in cake, as the protein has been broken down somewhat by the cooking. I'd ask the GP for a referral to an allergy clinic if possible.

My DS also has egg allergy. Similar symptoms although more severe. We were told to avoid egg.

We are currently trying to reintroduce it (he’s nearly 3.5). Mostly through baked stuff like cake, which it looks like he can now tolerate, as he seems to be growing out of it

Thanks! I've made him a few savoury muffins before which contain egg and he's been fine. I'll give my practice a phone. Thanks ladies!

My daughter sounds similar although she’s almost 3 now. Always been fine with egg cooked in things like cake, but eggs on their own, mayo, fresh pasta etc brings up a fairly mild reaction. She still ends up with an awfully blotchy face though. We were referred for allergy testing and they said to avoid it. It’s possible to grow out of apparently, but she had a reaction to chicken nuggets that someone had made the other day so I don’t think we’re there yet.

Nephew had similar symptoms and sil was told to keep feeding eggs unless the reaction gets worse in which case to see the GP again. It’s very important you speak to your GP and get their advice because sometimes, avoiding egg, can make a mild allergy permanent or worse later on.

Definitely do take proper medical advice, but we are under a dietician for egg allergy and have been advised to firstly try to get even the tiniest trace of egg into my DD’s diet (new research says to try and get to a level of the allergen they can tolerate rather than totally avoid) and then secondly to test out well baked egg as many kids can tolerate that as it changes the protein structure. Good luck, allergies are a minefield...

Hi,
My LO is 16 months and has similar symptoms which we first noticed around 7 months. We were told not to give eggs anymore but to keep trying occasionally and to try baked products containing egg, as some have suggested here.
My daughter can now eat products containing egg with no issues but still not plain eggs.

Definitely get a doctors opinion but I think it's often something they can slowly grow out of or at least become less severe x
