My dd is just 4 bit of a night mare with toilet training. Been pretty good since 3 1/2 years. Had a set back around her 4th birthday so started sticker chart worked great. Stopped it last week told her she has done well so instead of stickers can have magizine every saturday if we have no problems all week. ok first week then reverted back to leaving it to the last minute and having lots of damp pants not usually trousers though. Didnt really make a big thing but did say a few time we wont be able to get a magizine. Talked to hv she said completly ignore it no talking about the toilet etc and dont over praise her etc for going to the toilet but make sure she is getting lot of praise of other things. Today has been going to the toilet no probs but has had pants wet enough to change twice. I know lots of kid have the odd drip but this is more than that. With the chart she was completly dry bar the odd drip which was just ignored so I know she can do it. Advise please.

Why can't she have a sticker chart at 4? Dd still has one, and she's 6 ...

The hv says now we know she can do it we shouldnt make a big thing about it either way, and a sticker chart should be used in the short term to get them back on track. And going to the toilet should be just part of normal life and its something everyone has to do. Its not that she is completly wetting her self just leaving to late. Not sure what to do hv has offered to come on see her and talk to her.

How do we ever stop it for toilet training dont mind her have sticker for other stuff. But at 4 surely it should be something that is part of every day life. Hv thinks it for attention which I think it might be a bit so thought ignoring completly was the best idea

aw, I think they all have little accidents. For the first year dd was in school she had to bring a spare pair of knickers and socks as a rule so that would imply that it's not uncommon for little ones as young as 4/5 to have wetting accidents.

I don't see the harm at this age really. I'd probably start to worry if she still insisted on a sticker at 18!

All children reach their milestones at different ages. Some don't talk for ages, some prefer shuffling around on their bottoms a little longer before walking, some keep the soothers longer than others.

She'll be fine without a chat from the HV which will make it more of an issue than warrants I think.

good luck

Thanks everyone what would I do without mumnet you lot make a lot more sense than my hv. You would think at 28 I could get my head a round sticker charts

I think if a hv (or any strange grown-up) had a chat with me about peeing my pants I'd have been quite upset at 4, I agree with other MN'ers.

sometimes I think I could do with a sticker chart for me, with a treat at the end of the week - maybe MN should set up a virtual one so we can encourage ourselves at all the good stuff we do
