Bonfire night with a baby

How would you approach bonfire night with a 5 week old baby? We've always loved bonfire night as a couple and have been quite outdoorsey with baby so far so im desperate to do somethjng for bonfire night. Has anyone taken a newborn to a display? Would it be worth wrapping baby up (im so paranoid about him being cold) and going for a walk around the area on the night to feel we're still doing something? I know baby wont care but in these first few weeks ws've felt like life has flipped so these little bits of normality are lovely. DH family used to do a family party with bonfire and fireworks but the host passed away last year so its still a bit raw anyway, hense wanting to do something so he isnt sitting and dwelling through the evening.
Baby isnt usually bothered by big noises (although the sound of a can opening always makes him jump!). Any advice? Also, what would you dress baby in if you did go out?

I've taken all mine to displays from being tiny babies

Surely ear defenders won’t be needed! A proper display the fireworks are quite far away. My neighbors have been letting some of in the garden tonight and they’re louder (from inside) than when we go to a big display.

I agree with pp, pop LO in a sling with a cost snow suit and ear protectors. They will be happy enough

Went with a 3 week old tonight, all snugly warm in a sling and with baby ear defenders on. Slept through it all. All of mine have been as newborns. None of mine have ever been scared of fireworks.

Op, argos sell baby ear defenders.......a thick hat with earflaps would take the edge off too.

Other than that just carry on as normal. It does everyone good to get out

There are often low bang firework displays which are earlier in the evening and especially designed for young children. Google your local NCT branches if you can’t find anything online.

Go for it! I’ll be going with a 4yo, 2yo and 6week old. Will wrap 6wo up and pop him in the sling, I expect he’ll sleep through it!

I have just been to a major firework display at Ascot in Berkshire. Towards the end the grandstand at the racecourse shook with the very loud explosions of the fireworks. A couple of very young babies were very distressed and screaming. The parents had fussed about gloves and hats but seemed oblivious to protecting the ears of their babies and how they would react to the very loud explosions. We were amazed that parents of 2-4 months old babies thought this was a good idea. There isn’t a baby firework display first and the grandstand truly moved. Very foolish to take babies.

My son was 5 weeks old on Saturday and we took him to our local bonfire and firework display on Friday evening. He was in a sling in my husband’s coat and stayed awake but very relaxed during the fireworks. I got some lovely photos of him gazing up at the sky filled with fireworks and am glad we went.
Ours was quite a small display and if he had become upset we could easily have walked back home in a few minutes. So perhaps you could stay in the edges of the crowd so you aren’t trapped if baby becomes upset and you want to make a quick exit?

I'd definitely go. Wish I'd gone with my DS when he was a newborn (would have been about 6 weeks) but now at 2 when we had a little home display all I could hear was 'don't like it' 😂
