Baby bean bag

Hi, due in April with my first child.

Really like the look of the baby bean bags for when baby is in the living room as oppose to a Moses basket, but my DH has just suggested they may be unsafe as baby won't be flat on their back?

I hope this isn't a stupid question, first time mum with a lot to learn!

For ref I've added a pic of what I mean.

Thanks a lot.

We had one for dd. She loved it. We never left her unsupervised in it and probably not longer then half hour anyway. She liked it better than a Moses basket as she was a bit more snuggled in it.

We got one and it's a big waste of money and space. They're quite dangerous too as they easily tip to the side if baby tries to roll. They look comfy on the photos but they actually have to be quite bulked out with beans to reduce suffocation risk (which makes it easier for them to tip!) and baby needs a medium-hard flat surface for sleeping too, i couldn't put my son in it and go and do the washing/nip to the loo without feeling really anxious about it. Once he was in the carrycot it felt a lot safer. Do you have a pram carry cot? We used ours. It lasted until he was 7 months when he moved to napping in his room.

We had one, but had to bulk it out a bit as DS sank too far into it. He loved napping in it as opposed to the Moses basket, but as soon as he started to move around a bit we ditched it as didn't want him toppling over.

We had a baby box for living room naps/somewhere to put baby down. Much safer in my opinion. And you can get one for free here - edu.babyboxco.com/?utm_expid=.ipY24hUrScOiroa4X0kt6g.0&utm_referrer=

(that’s how I got mine - just paid about a fiver for postage - FYI the postal charge comes up in dollars).

We have one but I only use it when I shower or go to the loo (she’s in there with me), I agree the high possibility of tipping. I bought the one which will be good for her to have til she’s about 10 so it’s not just about this period of her life

They're quite dangerous. Get a decent bouncy chair instead. Something like the Babybjorn reclines quite far back for a newborn.

SuperstarDJ · 22/10/2018 15:22

I had one for DD1 and have just bought another one for soon to arrive DD2. I never left DD unsupervised in it. She had a very flat head on one side and this was recommended for her to lie on rather than flat surfaces. It also helped with her reflux. I never let her sleep for long periods in it and stopped using it once she could roll.

Therefore it’s got a short life - few months only - but it was worth every penny with DD1.

JosellaPlayton · 22/10/2018 15:25

Get a baby bouncer instead. Much safer and the bouncing motion is brilliant for getting them off to sleep. If your pram has a suitable carrycot then that’s also a good alternative to a Moses basket. That bean bag just looks dangerous.

Thanks for all of your feedback! They do look super comfy but I think I'll stick with a bouncer chair just to be on the safe side.

Think that'll ease DH's chair anxiety!

Thanks again xx
