Birthday party

Our little boy is one in December and we are thinking of having a little birthday party at home for him - inviting the mums/dads and babies we've met from antenatal/classes etc, family and friends. Quite a few of the babies have older siblings between 2-4 so I'm after some idea for activities for them? DS is our first child so not really sure what would appeal to older slightly children? I did think about colouring books/play doh for the ones nearer 4, but then thought there's potential for messy/ruined clothes etc and not sure the parents would thank me? Any one have any ideas? Also - would you do party bags for the babies? If so, what would you put in them?

Older children - play doh and colouring are great ideas. Also, cutting and sticking, make a birthday crown/card, few books, maybe a little teddy bear’s picnic area. I wouldn’t worry about mess, I just expect my 4yr old to get messy wherever he is and whatever he’s doing!
Party bags - probably not worth it for the babies imo, but if you want to do something my child went to a party where each child took a book home and another where they were given make your own bird feeder packs. I thought they were lovely ideas.

Ok lovely - won't worry too much about the mess! I love the idea of books too instead of a party bag!
