Water for constipation

My 7 week old daughter hasn’t had a dirty nappy in a few days and I’d in pain with it. The doctor has suggested to give her some cooled boiled water after a feed. However, I’ve heard you shouldn’t give a newborn water...has anyone done this? Or heard any different? 🤔

I have done it but my LO was around 2.5months at the time.
The point is that they can't have too much water as it takes away/doesn't have another electrolytes - I can't remember which one it is.
I think giving water is fine but it has to be a minimal amount. I have my LO 20ml immediately before a feed just the one time (my HV recommended the dosage but said to try a couple of times a day until I saw results). Baby pooped the same day. Ot was just a little at first but it seemed to get things going. You could perhaps try 10ml just the once. But I personally wouldn't give more than 20ml at his age. Best to get dosage guidance from your HV.
If you don't want to give water, try increasing intake of natural laxatives (e.g pears, linseed, etc.)

Thank you :) I’ve not been able to get hold of my HV :( think she’s on holiday!

My baby did this around the same age - went from a couple of poo’s a day to nothing for a few days. I contacted my HV and she said that she wouldn’t be concerned until it was day 5 of no poo’s. When it finally came it was a biggun!

You can try gently rubbing their tummy in clockwise circles, or cycling their legs, or moving legs up and down to the tummy with their knees bending.
