After effects of MMR injection.

My son is 14 months old and two weeks ago he had his first MMR injection.

He’s been absolutely fine however he woke up today, 15 days post jab, and he has got lots of red pin prick spots over his chest, back and die the sides of his torso.

He’s completely well in himself and although he feels warm his temperature is only 36.5. The rash does blanch.

I have heard a few anecdotal tales of rashes appearing after the immunisation, does this sound like that? Is two weeks post injection too long a time frame to attribute his rash to that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It’s a known side effect of the MMR vaccine, usually 2-3 weeks post immunisation. It’s not infectious but can make them feel a bit grotty so medicate as required. My DS was exactly the same.

I thought this was going to be some loon ball anti vaccination thread.

My DD was exactly the same about 10 days after injections, didn't last long about 3/4 days. Calpol if needed and cuddles and he will be fine ☺️

Yep, DS has just had exactly the same last week, rash lasted about 12hrs & next day he was totally back to normal. Practice nurse did warn us though and sajd it was usually 1-2'weeks after it might appear xx

About a week to 11 days after the MMR injection, some children get a very mild form ofmeasles.

This includes a rash, high temperature, loss of appetite and a general feeling of being unwell for about 2 or 3 days.

Find out how to treat a high temperature in a child

About 3 to 4 weeks after having the MMR injection,1 in 50 children develop a mild form ofmumps.

This includes swelling of the glands in the cheek, neck or under the jaw, and lasts for a day or two.

One to 3 weeks after receiving the rubellavaccine component of MMRvaccine, some adult women experience painful, stiff or swollen joints, which can last for around 3 days.

Thank you so much everyone - I feel really reassured now. I will keep an eye on him regarding temperatures and will be sure to give cuddles as required.

His sleep has been horrendous the last 3-4 days so I wonder if maybe something has been brewing....

DD2 had this, confirmed by the GP as basically being a measles rash and at the longer end of the timeframe you'd expect to have a jab reaction (so getting near 2 weeks). Calpol and she was fine in a day or two.

My DD also had the full ‘mealsles’ reaction that not all kids get, and she was actually pretty poorly for a couple weeks, to the extent at the time I got quite twitchy about whether the vaccine was safe. She had been taking independent steps and all this stopped for 6 weeks, Sleep was awful, lots of crying etc. However after this period she did go back to normal and it just seemed unlucky that she got a bad reaction compared to some.
