Should I be worried....?

I apologise for it being another one of those threads... but I need some insight

I am a single mum to my DS who is almost 2. He is happy, healthy and content most of the time and such a good boy. Now He is tall, I'm not exactly sure how tall but he is often mistaken for a 3 year old and has been for quite some time now. He is fairly chunky, weighing in at 9lb4 when he was born but My issue is that I'm finding myself having to put him in 3-4yo clothes - anything smaller doesn't fit him at all! I don't know if this is an issue I should be worried about?

I think his diet is pretty balanced, altho he loves his food and he is very active. But a few months ago when I weighed him he was already over 15kg which I believe is the average weight for approx a 4 year old. I've already had issues with his car seat because of this.

Should I be worried? Do I need to be doing anything/seeing anyone??

Thanks for reading

If you are worried I’d measure his height and weight, in a fun way, then plot his centiles. Can you remember which centiles he was on when he was born?

@JiltedJohnsJulie I don't, unfortunately BlushI remember at his 1 year check the health visitor said something about being around 96/97/98th centile but she wasn't worried because of his height?

I'm just worried he's gonna constantly be in bigger clothes and he's gonna struggle later in childhood

Not an expert but sounds normal to me. My 2yo is 15kg and lots of her clothes are 3-4. Speak to health visitor if you are worried.

DS was the same at that age (95th centile) but he has since slowed down a bit (he's four) and he's now in the "right" clothes for his age...don't worry OP, DS grows out and then up a bit, out and then up...your little one will almost certainly do the same 🙌

It’s ok for him to be heavy if his weight is in line with his height. Weigh him and measure him (not making a big deal of it) and then calculate his BMI on the NHS website.

Having had a 50th centile child I can tell you that the clothes sizes are set for that sized child. So DD is always in the correct sized clothes so as she hits an age she is that one.

DS was 6 on Saturday he is in 9-10 clothes because he is 99th centile - he is an inch shorter than his sister and has bigger hands and feet.

He will end up being 6ft4 she will 5ft 4 - the sizing are for the average sized person

Thank you all that makes me feel so much better!!!!

I think it does help that he's extraordinarily tall for his age so that's good. His dad is tall at 6ft4 and I'm 5ft8 so kinda figures really....

I did read the other day that kids sometimes slow down with the growing at age 2/3ish so hopefully his 3/4yo clothes will fit for a while now too!! He was literally in 2-3yo clothes for about 4 months not even joking

Like others have said, as long as he’s in proportion there’s nothing to worry about. My DN has always been on the 98th centile for weight and height and is now a beautiful teen.
