ok so my eldest is almost 2, he knows when he's done something in his nappy and takes it straight off after doing a poo. But my H.V. told me to not even bother trying to get him on a potty as he's only showing this sign.

what do i do?

you could get a potty and let him sit on it a couple of times a day to get him used to it. I did that with dd - she already wore pull up nappies so that made it easier to get them up and down. I didnt start potty training properly till she was 2 1/2 but she had had a few pees and one poo in the potty before that. It wont do any harm to get one just now but keep it casual to start with

I have just started training my ds and he is nearly 23 months. He is doing really well and I mostly did it because nappy changes were becoming such a battle.

We have been doing it for about 10 days now and he seems so much happier and comfortable.

I'd give it a go, if he doesnt get on with it, leave it and wait a while, if he does then go for it!

bury your head in the sand. i did that (interspersed with anxiety about my parental crapness) and ds1 has, of his own accord, gone and trained himself really quite beautifully. no accidents at all, bar 1 about a day after he asked to wear pants, not a nappy... and then, 3 nights ago he announced 'i dont want to wear a nappy at night, im a big boy, not a baby.'
fair do's, say i.
not a drop of leakage so far. was up last night for a wee and wend down hallway to potty to do it and back to bed after.
bloody well amazing.

course, ive got ds's 2 and 3 to go yet...

I have to say that given the choice, I think I would have waited so it would have been quicker when he was a bit older.

But as he is so much happier now, sure it is the right thing for him, even if it takes a while.
