DS is a while off weaning but seeing as we plan to get second hand i need to start searching. Im aware the Ikea one is supposed to be fab but we are nearly 2 hours from an ikea so I'd like to consider alternatives too. Space isnt an issue too much but id like it to be easy to clean

Asda and Aldi do high chairs which are very similar to the Ikea one, they're just not dishwasher safe (I don't think)

Clevs · 15/10/2018 15:50

I can't offer any advice as we got given a high chair but you can get the Ikea one on Amazon. Or if you're thinking of buying second hand they often pop up on Facebook marketplace or EBay, so you may find one local to you.

Clevs · 15/10/2018 15:52

@WooYa You've just reminded me - Asda had a baby sale on last week and had their own Ikea-style high chair for £12 in my local store.

The Aldi one is almost identical to the Ikea one but has shoulder straps as well as a waist strap so is better for the 6 - 12 month stage.

It doesn’t say it is dishwasher safe but I have been putting ours through with no issues at all.

changingname18 · 15/10/2018 15:54

Was coming on to say the Asda £12 does the job. I've got a massive all singing all dancing one too. But prefer the cheap one

SputnikBear · 15/10/2018 15:55

I didn’t get the Ikea one due to the lack of a footrest. It’s more difficult for a child to learn fine motor skills with their feet dangling free. I have the Nomi high chair which is fabulous. The Tripp Trapp is also good but apparently tips over backwards - the Nomi has wheels to prevent that.

CountessVonBoobs · 15/10/2018 15:55

Easy to clean = the IKEA one or a doppelganger. I'd bet my boots someone in your area will have one to sell or give away anyway if you don't want to trek there.

If you want something a bit nicer and also easy-clean and longlasting look for a secondhand Stokke Tripp Trapp.

KeysHairbandNotepad · 15/10/2018 15:55

Ikea delivery is about £3.99 so may be worth ordering online. We have the bebe style asda highchair it was only £12. It's great.

SparkleBanana · 15/10/2018 15:56

We got this gifted to us from a neighbour of a family member
www.eastcoastnursery.co.uk/EC57/combination-natural-wooden-highchair.aspx
It’s not what I would have picked myself but it has been absolutely brilliant, my daughter now uses it for drawing, play doh etc now she’s older. We used it up high while she was little then she started using just the seat and tray when she started sitting with family (can’t always use the dining table). She loves it.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 15/10/2018 15:56

IKEA, every time.

When ours gets dirty I take it out the back and hose it down.

WisestIsShe · 15/10/2018 16:03

If you usually eat at the dining table would you consider a booster? They are reasonable, easy to clean and store etc here
I'm a childminder and the are what I use once they can sit properly.

Northernbeachbum · 15/10/2018 16:03

Good to know about the aldi one having the shoulder straps! Maybe a trip to ikea is needed, they seem to sell instantly second hand locally!

Same with the tripp trap

I'd still say IKEA - all of my NCT group ended up with them, even though some of them had already got other types!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 15/10/2018 16:08

The only thing I would say about second hand, is don’t the straps get a bit yucky after a while? I rejected two high chairs gifted to us on the basis of the straps and have major issues trying to keep the straps clean on our high chair.

Can’t recommend the high chair we bought, so no recommendations from me, sorry!

Northernbeachbum · 15/10/2018 16:11

@frazzyandfrumpled could you tell me which one do you have so i know to avoid

CountessVonBoobs · 15/10/2018 16:13

You can just take the straps of the IKEA one off and put them in the washing machine, as could you with the fancier Cosatto one I had before the IKEA one. The straps are detachable on most highchairs.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 15/10/2018 16:13

I can’t recommend the trip trap enough! It’s expensive but I see it as an investment as a chair that will grow with my little boy.
I can’t see an issue with it tipping as it comes with stabilising feet that you slot in to prevent this. It also has fully removeable and washable cushion and straps. I did pay extra for the tray and that’s dish washable too. It looks fab at our kitchen table

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 15/10/2018 16:14

Sure, it’s the Joie Mimzy Snacker. It’s a bugger to clean and the “no fuss one hand fold” mechanism doesn’t work!

Nellyelora · 15/10/2018 16:14

I'm in the minority on mn in that I don't really like the IKEA antilop. The reasons are:-

a) no foot rest, dd was much happier in highchairs where her legs weren't dangling.

b) it doesn't fit in my dishwasher Angry

C) the legs are splayed so I tripped over them EVERY BLOODY DAY

D) they're not great for small houses as they don't fold. It instead comes apart.

The ONLY good thing about it is that it's very easy to take the straps out and bung them in the washing machine.

(basically I'm extremely bitter that I believed all the glowing reviews on mn and didn't do any more research on highchairs)

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 15/10/2018 16:15

I didn’t know that, CountessVonBoobs! They don’t seem very easy to remove on mine, unfortunately.

poppyseed1663 · 15/10/2018 16:17

We bought the Ikea one and think it is really good. Wipes clean and seems to be comfy. It is also quite cheap, which is always a bonus!

IamDrWho · 15/10/2018 16:26

We used our trip trapp chair for years - absolutely excellent
