good night nappy for 5 month old??

Our 5 month old wears Moltex during the day and they're great - never leak, but he drinks so much he gets soaking wet every night and then doesn't sleep well. We tried changing his nappy when we went to bed (9.30pm!) but he was still wet through at 2am.

Can anyone recommend an extra absorbant nappy we could try? Would start buying different brands but they're so expensive - I'd rather get one people already know is good!

huggies and pampers are the ones we have used extensively whilst living in the UK - they were brilliant.

why don't you try using a cloth nappy at night, something like a tots bots or minki stuffable would be good for a 5 month old,
they are much kinder to babies skin, more absorbant than disposables and really easy to use.

I'd have to agree with bm3. It doesn't have to be all or nothing when it comes to using cloth. Why not try to borrow a Totsbots size 2 from someone and give it a go. I used MEOS for the day but always the tots at night (12 hours) - never had a leak with either and my wee chap (8 months) drinks huges amounts because of the heat out here (Egypt). I fold over the attached booster which gives him extra absorbancy where he needs it. Always has a lovely dry bum in morn due to my home made fleece liners. Sorry for the hard sell but worth a try????, will save $$$$ in the long run too as size 2's will last him for ages. Let's know how you get on.

Or you could try putting him in the next size up of Moltex at night.

IIRC (and I may be wrong) Babykind rent out washable nappies for trials.

hmmm - we bought a load of washables when ds1 was a baby, but stopped using them. Will have a look to see what we've got. I'll also talk to Bea, who's an avid washables user! In the meantime Boots have got Pampers on sale at the moment so I've bought a couple of packets. Thanks everyone!

we had the same problem - ds was and still is a heavy wetter in the night.

OUr solution was to change him before going to bed - as late as possible. We also switched from pampers to huggies which we found more absorbent

Hi,
i tried to contact you through cat but you dont have your details there, if you want to try a tots bots and wrap contact me.

dot1 · 26/08/2004 20:13

thanks bensmum3 - I've moved house/work and e-mail address so I don't think Mumsnet has all my new details! My e-mail address is [email protected]

Could you mail me with more details - how much it would be, etc.
Thanks again!

Are Totsbots more absorbent than Bumbles? I always thought they were pretty much the same construction, but Bumbles can be taken apart. But our 3 month old dd from time to time has wet nightclothes in the morning ... I think because the nappy gets so wet that it creeps out the top of the wrap.

bensmum3 · 28/08/2004 20:08

Hi,
I can't comment on bumbles as i've never tried them, but i've never had a leak with tots bots !

bensmum3 · 28/08/2004 20:10

sorry for 2nd message, just a thought, is your wrap big enough ?

spots · 29/08/2004 16:24

yes just moved up a size... it doesn't happen every night... curious.

bensmum3 · 29/08/2004 23:30

what make of wrap are you using ? Some of the cotton covered ones can wick moisture out onto the surface, i use fleece at night usually and although you have to wash it after every use it never leaks.
How are you doing dot1 ?
