Cat napping in the day

My daughter is 11weeks old and a great night sleeper, but will only sleep for 30 minutes at a time during (unless we’re out of the house!) Should I be pushing her to sleep for longer stretches?

My dd was like that at 11 weeks. Once we started putting her down in her own room for naps at around 15 weeks she started napping for far longer. She has half an hour to an hour midmorning now and 1.5 to 2. 5 hours in the afternoon. She always wakes up after an hour but we stopped grabbing her as soon as she wakes up and let her fuss for 10 minutesshe usually puts herself back to sleep. I suppose it was almost a cry it out but we always go and get her right as any real crying starts.

It’s good to know it can change! My dd is already in her own cot. I’ve tried using white noise, Wake to sleep just before she gets to 30 minutes, and I’ve tried reassuring her whilst she’s crying in her cot and nothing seems to work. I don’t know whether to keep pushing her to sleep for longer or let her get up.

DD does this. She's 18wks now, and has been catnapping since around 8wks. DS was the same. It's driving me up the wall. I had some luck the other day by cuddling as soon as she woke up, getting her back off to sleep and putting her down again and she slept for almost 2.5hrs! Pretty sure that goes against good sleep guides though as it's not teaching her to sleep on her own. I also tried it again yesterday and just couldn't put her down again so I think it was a fluke.

With DS we did some sleep training when he got to around 6 months and naps started improving after that. Also I believe that developmentally they're more capable of sleeping longer at that age. I'm currently hanging in there and pinning all my hopes on this.

No doubt someone will be along soon to cheer us up and tell us their DC still does this at age 2!

My DD was like this, never napped longer than 30 minutes exactly. We tried various things to extend them but she just needed time to figure it out on her own I think. She started sleeping longer stretches at around 6/7 months. She's 1 now and her naps are still pretty solid, never thought we'd get to this point back then! Sometimes the best thing to do is just accept that this is how she sleeps and not fight it, chances are they will extend in time.
