Experienced OUers please advise, is it possible to do two level three courses at the same time?

I have two more modules to complete my degree, both level 3. One starts in September and one in January. I have managed (just) to cope with two level 2 courses this year but am concerned that the work level will be too much. I work and have two children a dog and of course dh.
Please help do not want to start two and have to give one up.
Thanks.

I wouldn't try it, but I guess it depends on the subject to an extent. I'm doing law, though currently on a break. I've done three years, two years of doing 1 x level one and 1 x level 2, then one year doing level 3. I found the level 3 much more work than level 1 and level 2 combined. Are you still with me?!

OOh youre the same as me, i need to do 2 level 3 courses at the same time, except they BOTH start in Oct , i also need to achieve grade 2passes for both of them to get on the post grad course im keen on!
Also work 2 days a week and have 2 kids!(no partner either)

It should be do-able for you as the courses are staggered..good luck!
i did a level 3 course before and it was v v hard, scraped a grade 4 pass!

I wouldn't do it tbh. I'm doing a level 2 and a level 3 together (staggered - 4 month overlap) and it has been horrible.

I wouldn't try it either, particularly with your work, dh and two kids, or something will give and it won't be nice. One course at a time, you'll be surprised how quickly the last two years go.

The two level twos have been ok as there has always been time between tmas but I am concerned how much more work there is involved in a level 3. Thanks for the advice I think I will start the one in October and see how it goes before I commit myself to two. Shame as that means two more years as a lowly paid LSA and finances are at breaking point already!

I think you're probably better off doing 2 years. Time flies.

The only way you could do both is if the 2 children are in school or in childcare and you have 2-3 days without the children where you can (and will) sit down and study.

I think if you've just managed doing 2 level 2s you should stick to 1 level 3. Blardy hard work!

I'm doing 1 level 3 and 1 level 1 (French) in order to finish a year early... and sometimes I get my deadlines confused. Not good!

flamingtoaster · 14/06/2007 19:32

I did it pre-children and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with children and a dog!

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 07:45

Marslady, slight hijack, i will be working 2 days a week, but have arranged for my ds to be at playschool 9-3pm on 2 days (dd at school)plus one morn 9-11.30, do you reckon this gives me enough study time to do 2 level 3 courses?

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 07:46

meant marslady or anyone who knows!!

rattleskuttle · 15/06/2007 08:21

this is my last ou year

i suppose you can do 2 level 3 courses as long as you've got the time. i wouldn't. i once did 2 overlapping level 1 (french) courses and found that very hard.

ime, the main difference between lvel 2 and 3, is that more is expected of you in the assignments, not that there's more to study, just more preparation needed for assignments. oh god i'm rambling.

MarsLady · 15/06/2007 12:50

allgonebellyup - Yes... if you do actually study during that time!

Molesworth · 15/06/2007 15:00

I agree that at level 3 more time is needed to produce the necessary 'substance' for the TMAs. There doesn't seem to be more reading in terms of quantity, but what reading there is is heavier and requires a lot more time and attention than the relatively easier level 2 texts.
