Is this bruise suspicious on my child? *SENSITIVE*

My 5 year old child came home from school yesterday with a bruise on their front left side, just below the pelvic bone and just above the groin. It's approx 1cm to 2cm big in an oval shape pointing at a 45 degree angle downwards with the top of the bruise being closest to their left side. I know it's a new bruise because I got them dressed yesterday morning before I left for work. Their dad noticed it when he helped them out of the shower.

My mind is working overtime because I've already had problems with the school. Can anyone tell me if this type of bruise is like to be accidental or not? My child cannot tell me how it happened, I've had no bump note from school.

To not drip feed, my child has already been seriously assaulted by another child of the same age at school. However it seems I can't discuss that as every time I go into more detail I get reported for being a troll and my post is taken down!

I'm off to work at 06:45 so if I don't reply it's because I no longer have access to my phone.

Dd sometimes gets bruises like this from catching the corner of a table or chair back. Sometimes she has bruises and has no idea why, bruises are a fact of life in school age kids I think. Is there a reason why you’re so concerned about this one?

DD has a similar sounding one on her hip - I can see it right now. It was a table in school she says. I believe her!

Yes I'm concerned because of previous incidents. And because of its colour. It's very bright!

Is there outdoor play exqipment at the school? Sandpit, climbing frame, toy wheelbarrows, ride on toys? Scrambling about over this sort of stuff is how my DC picked up bruises they couldn't remember as too absorbed in play at the time. Not to diminish your concerns, but could be a fairly straightforward explanation.

Notveryadventurousname · 10/10/2018 06:36

equipment even!

hodgeheg92 · 10/10/2018 06:38

My first thought was the corner of a table too. That would also match with him not remembering how he did it. If he's okay in himself then I'd be inclined to let this go and assume it was from an accident.

KitandPup · 10/10/2018 07:16

I would assume running into a table but if you've had other incidents then I can understand your concern. What does your child say about it?

KitandPup · 10/10/2018 07:18

Sorry just seen they don't remember it. Do they seem ok in themself?

RancidOldHag · 10/10/2018 07:50

If they domn't remember, and don't seem stressed by not remembering, then my bet would be corner of a table or playground equipment. Something that they barely notice catching ad they dash past.

(If you notice that your DC has begun to bruise really easily, that is a symptom that needs to be reviewed by a GP)

I would guess leaning against the corner of one of those pointy half hexagonal tables. I have extensive experience of the shape of bruises those can produce on an adult leg because I'm forever walking into the fucking things when I'm in a classroom!

PippilottaLongstocking · 10/10/2018 14:12

That sounds like the kind of bruise that comes from the corners of tables or chairs to me. It’s so hard not to worry about these things!

Keeptrudging · 10/10/2018 14:15

Corner of a desk. I've got an almost permanent lower thigh bruise from walking into school desks (teacher). On a child that would be hip/groin height.
