My little boy is 6 weeks and has just been prescribed special milk and referred to a dietician, just wondering if anyone has any advice they can give? Did it take long for them to find the right milk for your little one? How long before you saw an improvement in them? Also will he be allergic his whole life , how will this affect weaning? Sorry for all the questions not something I've ever had experience of!

Hi I have a 3 and 1/2 year old who is still allergic, there are Facebook groups that I found immensely helpful. Look for cmpi and there should be a couple that you can ask to join.
You should also get support from a dietician with weaning, luckily there are lots of dairy free alternatives. Good luck! X

Hey there, my little man is 5.5 months old, only diagnosed at 4 months after a long battle to get them to belive me. He's on neocate (no cows milk at all) and I flavour it with 10-20ml of prune juice as otherwise he won't take it. I saw an immediate improvement after a few feeds and he was a new baby after 3 weeks. With weaning he started at 4.5 month and no it hasn't effected him other than avoiding cows milk. I have bought koko coconut yogurts and goats milk yogurt and cheese for him and he'll eat pretty much anything. I mix his neocate baby milk in with his baby rice. Just be careful looking at packaging as some spagbol and pasta purees include milk. I will try him with nutramigen (cows milk but broken down) in a few weeks, I think it's too soon for me to disrupt his little system.

I do belive some people grow out of it by the toddler years, but not always, also watch out because sometimes they'll have other allergies aswell such as soy x

Thank you all for the advice, I have a while before worrying about weaning as he's only 6 weeks just now so I'm hoping I'll understand it all a bit more by then. He's been put on aptamil pepti so I'm really hoping this makes a difference it's been a very difficult few weeks! Thank you again for all the advice xx

Sorry I know I asked about weaning but I really shouldn't worry about that yet as I have a while before I do it I just panicked after I'd been to the drs worrying how id figure it all out as I have no experience with allergies at all!

FYI some CMPA babies also react to goats milk as the proteins are very similar.

You can use oat milk with baby porridge and in cooking, my dietician said M&S oat milk is a good option as it’s fortified with iodine as well as calcium. Oatly Barista is also good.

DS loves Nush yoghurts (made from almond and cashew milk), he wasn’t so into the coconut milk yoghurts. I prefer the Nush ones too (breastfeeding so dairy-free myself).

Oh gosh I'm going to have to write all these things down I don't know what half of them are , is it easy to get the hang of? What do I look for on packaging etc when it comes to weaning? I don't have a clue what I'm doing! My 3 year old little girl never had any problems like this so it's all completely new to me x
