Is it the done thing these days to RSVP by text?

I always call to reply to party invites, just wondered what everyone else does...

Not here anyway!

We call each other up, or send invites

cupcakes · 13/06/2007 16:10

if mobile phone number is on invite I might. Or if I'd been invited by text! If not then no.

Having said that my mobile is hardly ever on and I get about 3 texts a year.

I like letters too. And I like those giftsets of small cards with envelopes.

purpleturtle · 13/06/2007 16:12

Must confess I would be more likely to text a mobile number than call it, assuming it's on the invitation. I always worry that I might be calling at a really bad time, so then I put it off. At least sending a text means it's done.

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:13

I call, esp. if I don't know the other person very well. I think it's a chance to introduce yourself, say hi, ask if there's anything specific 'x' wants.

I think nearly all the people who have replied, have done so by text, I feel a bit offended (not seriously but, you know, just in a 'don't be so silly Mascara' sort of a way)

If someone has put a mobile number on there, I would assume that a text is expected or acceptable. Written responses on the reply slip are always nicer in my opinion - but I am probably in the minority nowadays!

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:15

I'm glad to hear it's the done thing!!! I will stop worrying that they just don't want to talk to me now

Whereas I am much much less likely to call somebody I don't know well. I just feel so awkward and shy.

serenity · 13/06/2007 16:17

I hate talking to people I don't know on the phone, so if I can text I'll text. Tbh I'd just be happy people bothered RSVPing

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:18

I think it's because I don't do the school gates, I wonder sometimes if DD misses out because mums who are friends always invite their friends children round etc

for kids?
oh yes fine

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:19

lol, serenity that's the flip side isn't it.. I'm shocked every year at the amount of people who don't respond at all. Esp. when it's obviously at a place outside the home and so you'll need numbers etc

Think it's one of those bits of manners that are changing.

I got text RSVPs for the first time for dd's party last autumn - and thought they were fine, in fact a good idea - no danger of forgetting who you'd heard from, no scrabbling for the phone with your hands full of shopping. Etc.

But I'm not sure I've done a party RSVP by text - playdates and that sort of thing, definitely.

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:19

good am very happy to hear it's acceptible.

MascaraOHara · 13/06/2007 16:20

playdates I do by text yes - much easier!

I call but a text might be useful if she is expecting 40 rsvps and she can then check back when she is at home having a quiet I'm planning party moment and has her list with her and can check off who is and who isn't coming.

TheDaVinciCod · 13/06/2007 16:28
