How to stop my baby biting me when breastfeeding.

He's just turned 6 months and has been biting for quite a while, normally when tired but it can also be a sign that he's had enough, instead of just pulling off.

It was ok before his teeth appeared because it didn't hurt that much. But now he has two bottom teeth and it really hurts! I noticed he was doing it a lot when the teeth were coming through, then was doing it less after they appeared. He's suddenly started biting more now though to the point where I have a small puncture wound on one nipple and both nipples are so sore. I've started putting Lansinoh lanolin cream on which I've not used for months since before his tongue tie was snapped.

I don't know whether it's because another tooth could be coming through? Or just one of those things that they do. Any ideas on how to stop it?

I've tried shouting 'no' and 'no biting', pulling away then re-latching, pushing him in towards me and stopping the feed altogether it he's still doing it.

It’s likely due to teeth. They go through these phases. I found a firm no, unlatching and putting the boob away seems to work. Mine knows now when he does it and you can see him really trying not to as he knows it means I’ll take him off. It’s sad being a bit stern with them, but they have to learn so they don’t hurt you.

I never experienced that, bf DS1 for 12mths DS2 for 9mths, have you spoken to bf advisor or hv for advice? Sending you a hug, biting in a tender place can’t be pleasant, perhaps express?

Well since my initial post he's been biting less and the soreness has improved. He still bites but I watch him like a hawk and can anticipate when he's about to do it.

I did spot two top teeth under the gum a couple of days ago so that could be the reason.

And as for expressing, as much as I'd love to so his dad can help with feeding I literally have no time to. He feeds so frequently and only has short naps so it's not possible.

I'd say either just express or try nipple teets?
