Compact toys to take away with us

We’re off (abroad) to my mother in laws for a couple of weeks soon. She won’t really have any toys and I’d like to take a few bits to help keep my toddler (2) entertained.
It’s not a holiday a such and we will be spending a lot of time at the house whilst my husband goes off with the car and does overdue errands for MiL. It’s not exactly a family friendly place, no local parks etc. I know I’ll be able to entertain him somewhat doing things like baking, feeding the chickens she has Hmm etc but if anyone has any suggestions of lightweight compact toys for toddlers it’d be appreciated. Already got in colouring books/crayons/chalk.

Does he like cars? Melissa and Doug have a very compact garage (complete with lift, car wash, etc) that’s slightly bigger than a shoebox.

We have that folding garage from wilko but wouldn’t recommend it, it’s very unstable and comes apart constantly - very frustrating for DS.

'Playing in the sink' used to do very well for my boys when they were small and we went away. Just fill the sink with warmish water (and a bit of washing up liquid for bubbles) and let them faff around with pans, spoons, whisks, graters or whatever for aaaaaaages. You'll get bored long before they do

You don't say which country but most have the equivalent of the pound shop - head there on your first full day and let him choose, the quality will be rubbish but they don't have to last long. Otherwise finger puppets & cars are compact. We travelled a lot at that age and just took colouring books plus a doll each, picking up little treats along the way eg bubbles, a $1 fishing net to pond dip, a bug hunting kit was particularly well used and managed to bring it back on the plane. Oh and uno, they played that from 2, we also taught them lots of simple card games - we backpacked so space really was at a premium.
