Hi, I wasn't diagnosed in early pregnancy but found out after my DS was born that I had contracted the virus in the first trimester.

I would try not to worry too much, there's nothing you can do unfortunately.

I know that's easier said than done. Is there any questions that you want to ask?

Hi lovelise

Can I ask how your baby/child is now? Have they any affects from CMV?

Of course. My little boy is profoundly deaf and wears hearing aids. He's in the process for cochlear implants.

I thank my lucky stars that there doesn't seem to be any other impact. CMV is shitty virus and has taken my little boys hearing from him.

There is scale of impact from unaffected to severely disabled.

If you are going through this, CMV Action are are great website to visit. They have lots of stories and experiences on there.

Anything else? Ask away!

Oh, he's such a happy, cheeky little boy and we love him to absolute bits.

He's 17 months.

Agh thanks for sharing! I have spoken to a few mummies and the charity already. Waiting for an amniocentesis next week! Have not enjoyed this pregnancy at all because of this! Just wish I had known before what I know now! Anyway only time will tell x

In the UK it's not standard practice to have a pre-natal test for CMV. In some ways I'm kinda glad because I didn't have months of worrying.

Sometimes babies can be born absolutely OK which is called 'asymptomatic' so you might be just fine.

Please let me know if you have any questions as you get further down the line.

I know how traumatic this can be!
