My ds is three, needs to be potty trained. He seem's to want to use the potty, but he was unwell for the past three weeks with D and S, so obv didn't want to potty train him them.

What are your best tips?

My dd is 20months, seems to be ready (dc are complete opposites). Would you do it together?
Thanks

go for it, my dd trained herself in a day at 20 months.
They can help each other along the way

yes agree go for it. Girls 'get it' faster but I think it's more to do with the waterworks.
My dss were both late at potty training.

Hope it goes well for you

If they're interested then definitely try. I've waited with my eldest 2 for their cues and it wasn't too difficult. Good luck

I've just trained ds who is just over 3 but tbh he didn't like the potty so we went straight for the toilet and he picked it up pretty quickly (still won't poo in it though).

It's going to be hard work with 2 tbh - you are going to need about 4 potties and a lot of patience. And don't plan on going out for a while!

Sorry if this sounds negative but I think 2 together is too much (although obviously parents of twins have to cope!)

You can but try. Good luck

do it together extra support you will be able to make it a game ie they been now if you go you can both get sticker, if your dc unsure potty use toilet saves having to make the change later on good luck

Jo, I'll come back later to this thread if you want some ideas as to how to go about it - I have trained dd and ds, the basic approach is the same but there are slight differences!

Thanks for the advice, Mercy, looking forward to the tips!!

Ok, beforehand: explain what's going to happen. Buy or choose together some knickers/pants (ones with a picture on the front are good for helping them know which way round to put them on). Buy 2 potties to start with - you may find ds wants to go straight onto the toilet for wees at least. Buy a child toilet seat and a step stool. Also stickers etc if your children like them.

Be prepared for lots of accidents, lots of praise (clapping etc) and having to peer into the potty or toilet to admire the wee or poo

Step 1 to follow!

I would

I have a 21 month old charge (and a potty trained 4 year old)

If i was happeing to potty train anotehr child now i would DEFINITELY try to do him too...

you can always give up if its a disaseter...

tbh i think my 21month old is nearly ready to be potty trained now.... but I am not ready... (and more are his parenst) so we dont plan to start until easter 2008!

Yeah, I probably would if dd is willing. Gotta say tho' my dd was having none of it, so I gave up and then a few weeks later, whilst in the middle of the supermarket piped up, I want to go to the toilet. Just be guided by your dd, give it a go, I know plenty of people it has worked for. (Just not me)
