Would you have said something?

I was out on the tram today with my nearly 6 month dd, and there was another baby in a pram opposite, about 3 months old. He was with, I think, dad and grandma. It's been warm, sticky, but grey today here, and dd was in a t-shirt and cord dungarees. This baby had a thick fleecy coat, presumably clothes under it, it was done up so well I couldn't see, a thick hat, and a double layer of blanket. The adults were dressed appropriately for the weather, in short sleeves.

Do people not know about overheating and cot death?? Do they not realise it's dangerous? Is this just ignorance? - I really hope so.

I wouldn't have known how to say anything, I'm not one for confrontations, and I hate competitive mummying. But now I'm home I'm just kind of worried about that baby. Would anyone have said anything? And if so, what?

I never know what to say in such situations either. If I do say anything it tends to be under the guise of takling to my dd (yes I'm one of those annoying people)

Saying that the weathers so changable at the moment that they probably didn't think.

But people in hot countries cover their babies from head to toe too.

You could have just said "Blimey, he looks cold!" Or it that too sarcastic?

It's really difficult, isn't it.

I went to Switzerland when ds was about 10 months old, and all the Swiss ladies kept tutting and coming up telling me he was under-dressed.

My point is that they did say something, and it didn't bother me. I was quite touched by their concern, actually.

You're right, freya. A child could die in those circumstances ... and I would probably have said something. It's not as if you'll ever see them again, is it

id have said something inadvertantly, like to the baby "ooh, you look warm little one", then say to aprent"you just dont know what to put them in in this weather do you"...i would prob get told to Feck off though, but i would have said it.

oh gosh it's so difficult isn't it. I watched a little newborn almost choke he was crying so much. I mean really, wailing, hurt, hysterical cries whilst the Mum went through every lipstick colour in the testers section in Boots. She didn't even glance his way - the pram was facing outwards as well. It went on for ages. I physically had to tear myself away I just wanted to pick him up and comfort him myself, I just shot her a look.
