Movement monitors - peace of mind or unnecessary anxiety

Just that really.

I've heard some say movement monitors give real peace of mind. Others have said that there's no evidence they actually do any good and the false alarms are more likely to make you an anxious parent, outweighing any potential benefit.

Honestly I never even thought about getting one, nor do I know anyone who had one.
Video monitor and trips upstairs to check were sufficient peace of mind for me.

Peace of mind. Definitely.

We got an Angelcare system that has a video monitor and a movement sensor in one and it’s brilliant.

I think it’s a very individual choice. There is as you say, no evidence that they prevent SIDS, just tell you it’s happened. However, I struggled to sleep in the early days with DS as I was constantly feeling I needed to check he was breathing, so I think one of these may have helped me sleep more! My friend is lending me one for our next baby so we’ll see.

Peace of mind for me.

With DC1 I couldn’t sleep when he did because I was scared he’d stop breathing if I wasn’t watching him sleep.

The movement monitor really helped me with that. I was more relaxed with the younger DC.

We just have an ordinary monitor, not even a video one. You can hear my son breathing on it and moving around too.

I have one and love it. Sometimes it does go off but more now as he wriggles about now as he's 19 months but I will use it until he gos into his bigger bed. I read an article online where a doctor was saying if the baby is small and not able to roll and it gos off then it may not have been a false alarm but could have startled the baby enough to wake it up again as when it does go off there is a loud beep in the room. I remember one night my sons went off he was in the same room and I woke up and heard him take a deep breath scared the life out of me couldn't sleep for hours after now me and hubby can't sleep without the ticking lol definitely worth every penny
