Looking for clarification - baby sleeping in own room

Hello all!

So I have a 5month old DD, now I know it's only 4 weeks until the SIDS risk drops and she can sleep alone but can someone clarify something for me?

As I understand it she must have all her sleeps in the same room as me. Is she still protected from SIDS if I put her down to sleep in the same room as her 3 y.o sister?

Does DD2 just need another person in the room?

It's been a struggle to get her to nap because she's only comfortable sleeping on a mattress! Confused

I thought it had to be an adult. The lullaby trust would be the place to find out that information.

SIDS risk does reduce at 6 months it drops again at 12 months so many countries to ‘room-in’ until 12 months.

I didn't wait until 6 months.

Baby went to bed withpit us from 6 weeks then own room at 8 weeks for night as we kept waking her up when we came up to bed.

Naps moved to her own room around 12 weeks.

My understanding is that it should be a parent, rather than a sibling.

You've already got past the 4 month stage, when 72% of SIDS cases happen, so the risk is already lower than it was. Assuming you've minimised other risks, then it is a very very small risk at this point.

There is limited evidence to support protective impact of room sharing beyond 4 months. At the same time recent research has shown that babies sleeping in their own rooms at 4 months consolidate sleep better and sleep for longer:

Of course, it is still a risk based decision that only parents can make. I moved DD into her own room at 12 weeks after reviewing actual research.
