Babies helping themselves to water through the night

So my DS is 13 months old and is starting to sleep through ( of a fashion ). He wakes up through the night and I give him his water, whilst him being stood up in his cot, then he lays back down and nods back off.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how we let him "help himself" to his water through the night or is this unreasonable ? As he does want the water as he guzzles it and has a dry mouth

Leave a sippy cup in his cot?

I used to leave a cup in ds cot when it was really hot this summer. Just make sure it's one of those no spills ones as sometimes he'd wake up with wet sheets where he'd knocked his cup over after a drink.

Thanks I was just wondered on the him finding it in the dark, but it obviously not a problem. I Was wondering about putting a shelf up, (my hubby laughed at the thought of putting a water bottle like rabbits have) but was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas. Thanks guys

We left a tippy cup in the cot from age 1 to 2. Trying to phase out now going through potty training.

Would you consider taking the side off his cot (lowest mattress setting) or moving him to a bed? Then he can have a cup of water on the side.
