4mo crying all the time! HELP!!

Its wearing me out, Im exhausted with it. Even though he sleeps through the night. He roughly has a 9oz bottle at noon, then again at 4pm, then again around 7-8pm when he will go down for the night. But recently hes been waking up around 6am and taking two 7oz bottles!! Sometimes he will take 2/3 ozs of another bottle too.

He just cries contantly!! Especially when hes tired its a nightmare, (thanks to mil) he now has to be walked round to go asleep most of the time but we are slowly dropping that. Hes got such a temper, if i try and leave him for a minute when hes crying he scratches his face or digs his fingers right into his legs He did have colic up until 3mos but things are a lot better than they was then but still quite bad. Im close to tears! He eats, drinks and poos enough. gets enough sleep what the hell is the matter with him?!!

could he be teething - it's not too soon.
is he chewing stuff and dribbling?

Just wanted to bump this to show some support. My DD sounds very similar to yours. I don't have any advice or tips to offer - I'm sure you will have thought of the obvious. I found time is all that really helps. They DO get easier to manage, and they DO grow out of the constant crying, but it sometimes takes a bit longer than 3 months. Look after yourself in the meantime, and use MN for support. I promise it will get better.

sounds like teething! i used ashton and parsons powders they are great and can be used with teething gel an medicines as its herbal!
Have you tried pushing him in the pushchair?
hope it gets better soon have you spoke to your hv about this mine suggested baby rice when my dd was like this

Sounds like you've hit the big four month growth spurt.

I would suggest that you put an extra feed in during the day for a while, so that he's not so hungry in the mornings. Does he get anything else between his 6am feed and his noon feed? You could try 3 hour spacing rather than 4 hour during the day, and see if that helps.

Thanks all

I was in such a state yesterday, didnt get chance to come back on. tbh yesterday was the worst day ever, touch wood so far today hes ok but it is only just past 7am lol.

Cantsleep i forgot about his 10am bottle - roughly when i get back from school run.

Oretty sure its his teeth, we had dentinox, calpol and ashton and parsons which all in all keeps him quiet for an hour.

I was so relieved yesterday at 1pm after I'd tried for an hour to get him asleep through screaming when he finally dropped off, I turned the tv off and just listened to the silence!! Didnt last long though!

julezboo, god this brings back memories. dd was just like this and i spent most of this period carrying her around in her sling, which she loved. i know not everyone is up for that, but it was just nice not to have the crying and she seemed to calm with the contact
shes nearly 10 mths now, and is an absolute dream most of the time, unless teething or unwell. just wanted to let you know, it does get better

mylittlefreya · 13/06/2007 10:02

Teething sounds likely. Apparently it's ok to give 6hrly calpol when it's really bad.

Reflux? My dd is better upright. It also might explain why your lo wants to take so much, they soothe the burn that way.

I don't think a trip to HV or GP is unreasonable when you're struggling so much.
Hugs. It's not as bad here... quite... but I do feel for you.

saffymum · 13/06/2007 10:06

hi, how are you doing today? I think its a growth spurt too, get a more filling formula or up his quantity and feeding times. If you are feeling stressed its not bad to just walk away for a few mins, no baby ever died from crying and I'm sure that he will soon learn that the scratching just hurts. good luck.

Hiya all

After my post this morning at 7am, he cried the whole way to school, then the whole way into town had to go solicitors over house, th cried all the way to DP's work (had to get to sign forms for house) I gave him a bottle once I got there and he cried some more.

The bouncy chair now has batteries in !!! He's quietly chewing his hands

I may pop to babyclinic next tuesday and have a word with health visitor.

julezboo · 14/06/2007 11:41

We was using colief and gripe water, still using gripe water but to be honest he pretty much gets his wind up right away now as soon as you sit him up!

Today is much much much better!!! I gave him some babyrice this morning with his breakfast bottle and hes like a different baby! Ate the lot and whinged for a bit more!!!

it's most probably a growth spurt, no need for baby rice, just give more milk.
