..of what you have spent on real nappies (and whether disposables would have been cheaper) leads to madness and despair. Discuss.

flibbertyjibbet · 12/06/2007 16:41

Yes I should have had a bigger gap between my babies I'd have saved a lot more!

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:09

They slipped through - was loooovely

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:10

soory one handed typing round ds2, could at least get your name right though

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:11

it's always soooooo nice when that happens they seem pretty quick with the fuzzis, mine have been shipped already, shipping was hefty though

Flame · 12/06/2007 17:11

I'm normally Falme, so don't notice anymore

flibbertyjibbet · 12/06/2007 17:15

Snugglebum I know you - you delivered a friends nappies to my house for her. Sounds like you've had the baby I saw as a bump. But sneaking goods through customs, now tut tut!!

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:17

oh no I don't sneak them through, the customs people are just nice every so often and miss a parcel Gin

Wow the first person i "know' from RL on MN [blush}

Flame · 12/06/2007 17:17

What are the rules for customs charges?

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:18

opps, yes the bump is now sat on my knee which is why i can't manage my [grins]s and s

snugglebumnappies · 12/06/2007 17:20

anything over a measly £18 that is imported from a non EU country is liable. It's up to the customs ppl to notice it though, then it tends to get paid by the courier/post office who hold your parcel till you pay them

flibbertyjibbet · 12/06/2007 17:22

No need to blush, you seemd like a very nice very hard working preggy mum!
Just a shame I'm not planning any more and won't need any nappies from you
both mine at nursery while I'm on a sicky day so no problem with or even

nappyzone · 12/06/2007 19:23

The customs people always get my stuff and even charge me when they shouldnt have - oh and when parcel force kindly charge you VAT that they shouldnt on nappies(which happened with my pea pods and happyheinys) they charge you a further £8-£12 handling fee grrrrrrr! Then you have to write a letter to get it back what you were wrongly charged and that generaly takes 3 follow up calls and 12 weeks later hey presto you get some of your claim back - do i sound bitter? I putting together my fuzzi order now too but they have no medium trains left so i can only assume that sbum and flame have depleted there stocks! , my fuzzi order is therefore delayed so im on with my bumgenius to compensate!

Wallace · 12/06/2007 19:41

Oooh good question!

13 second hand pocket nappies (fuzzibunz and lollipop) plus inserts and washable wipes - £20

a motherease one size nappy
a totsbots nappy
a fuzzibunz pocket nappy with booster
a totsbots fluffle nappy with booster
a prefold
a terry square

and
a motherease rikki wrap
a motherease airflow wrap

and
a nappi nippa
an extra totsbots booster
2 fleece liners
a roll of flushable liners
a nappy bucket
All of that was £5 from local real nappy project

8 second-hand little ewe terries - £12 (inc p&p)

Motherease airflow wrap - £9 inc p&p

2 second-hand Motherease airflow wrap - £10 inc p&p

a fleece balnket to make liners - £3

So that adds up to £59 Not bad! ds2 is 10 months and we have been using cloth since he wa 3 months

Indith · 12/06/2007 20:03

Wallace am of your local real nappy project. I get sod all here

Flame · 12/06/2007 20:42

I didn't think about the VAT with parcelforce!

My brain can't handle that arguement now... will do it next time it occurs.

maveta · 12/06/2007 22:13

Wallace - WOW! I can´t compete with these tallies as ds is only 6 weeks old but give me time, give me time..

So far I have

11 easypeasy qd
1 bamboozle size 1
1 diddy diaper
2 wambamboos size 1
1 sandy´s
1 swaddlebees

2 ME airflow small wraps
1 nature babies wrap
1 bambino mio wrap
3 ME rikki small wraps

I´ve just ordered a small fuzzi bunz (for grandparents), 5 diddy diapers (to help me last a bit longer between washes) and 6 wambamboos in size 2 (with the hope that as he slowly outgrows the bimbles we can ease into these).

Total cost to date - oh it´s late, I can´t work it out. I think about 270 Euros. All the bimbles were second hand and all the wraps were too, my mum contributed about 100 Euros to the fund so actual cost to me so far hasn´t been so great.

Let´s think.. cost for all the size 1 stuff is approx 210 Euros.. if he outgrows it all within a couple of months I´ll not have saved that much over disposables..BUT if we get use out of them a second time around then we will..resale is negligible really as the bimbles were 2nd hand and if they go through another kid they´ll be pretty knackered and not worth selling on. On the plus side we´re not adding to landfill and have tried out a variety so will be much more focused on what we want for the size 2s (at the moment wambamboos only but if the fuzzis impress might have a couple of them for change bag/babysitters).

ooo my head hurts...

You all make me feel A LOT better about my own spending (which has been considerable).

But as to keeping a running total in my head, that would just be too depressing to know how much money I have spent and no money coming in (SAHM)
