Feeding newborn and entertaining a feral toddler

I’ve got a 2 week old ds who just wants to bf all the time and won’t be put down or sleep anywhere but on me / in the sling.

I also have a 2.9yo dd who needs constant entertainment and activity. She doesn’t sit still at all. She is much like a puppy and usually needs a good run around outside at least twice a day to stop her crawling up the walls.

Tomorrow is my first day home alone with both of them as dh goes back to work. There is a limit to how much I can do as I’m still recovering from a lot of blood loss and an emcs.

What on earth do I do with dd while I feed ds? ( except tv and iPad). She will sit and listen to stories for a bit, but that’s not going to be enough for the hours I’m stuck feeding!

Tips please!

you could get her a doll, and let her play with you while you deal with the baby? call it her baby, and she will probably copy you. this one here comes with a bottle: www.notonthehighstreet.com/twogirlsandaboy/product/blue-baby-rag-doll

.fuzzyfelt:, she makes a scene with one of these kits. totally mess free www.fruugo.co.uk/fuzzy-felt-series-1-on-the-farm/p-23105702-50557490?ac=google&gclid=CjwKCAjw85zdBRB6EiwAov3Rih9pZNuxLoYSjPS1H6pwN8xYZfcbC5sEOHl4V_jHhMFeE1nzAuLDTBoCFaIQAvD_BwE

colouring books are always great, you can get some from the pound shop along with a pack of stickers

aquadoodles are great too

all the best x

Thanks sleep. she does have a doll she quite likes playing with so I’ll try and encourage that.

Sadly she has no interest in colouring, drawing or stickers ( or many other quiet sitting down activities!) Confused

Have you got any games?

Orchard have got an extensive collection of games that are good while you sit & feed, she can play with you or herself.

We’ve got shopping list, a cock a doodle moo & seaside counting.
We also have a bee version of kerplunk, a Thomas game & lots of jigsaws.
Really helped when I was feeding DS2 & hoping will work for the next one.

I wish she liked games! We’ve tried the shopping list one, snap and jigsaws but she just doesn’t have the attention span. She’ll have one or two turns then just start flinging the pieces around or just walk off to find something else to do!

Is there a toddler group nearby that you can get to? I found that great for entertaining DS (23 months) when I was breastfeeding his newborn brother.

agree with the above poster, or what about soft play? toddler gym classes? or even going to the park.

I’m definitely planning on getting out of the house as much as possible. There are a few playgroups within walking distance that we can do in the morning, and a playground if the weather is dry.
