Nappies that don't leak?!

I know there are probably loads of posts about this. But can anyone tell me the nappies they have found best to prevent leaking all over baby's clothes?! DS is 5 weeks old and is currently feeding a lot. Which obviously means a lot of poo and wee!!!! We were using Aldi but found leaks through the night were common. Tried Tesco Ultra Dry today and he managed to leak out of those too :/ he is just over 10lb and has quite a lot of chub on his belly and thighs. Any recommendations for the best nappies people have found would be much appreciated!!!

What size are you using? I used the Tesco Loves Baby ones for my two at that age and never had any issues with leaks.

Greenwomanofmay · 22/09/2018 15:30

I found Sainsbury's nappies good especially the elastic across the back.

IME it's totally dependent on the shape of your baby and you might need to change brands as they grow, especially when moving up a size.

Don't forget with a boy you need to ensure his penis is pointing down when you do up the nappy. That helps prevent leaks.

I've only ever used pampers for my son. Never had any problems at all (he was always a slim baby though, no chubbiness at all).

Johndoe10 · 22/09/2018 15:43

Never had any problems with pampers with all my three

My daughter had matchsticks for legs, and I found the only nappies that didn't constantly leak were two-part washable nappies, ie a nappy & a wrap over the top. Made sense really, they're so much better made, wide elastic, elastic at the waist (most disposables just leak up the back as they usually have no elastic there), and then a wrap over the top, so if anything leaks from the nappy it's contained in the wrap. As a result had far far less washing. I liked terry squares as they were quick to dry, but Motherease Sandys nappies and Airflow wraps were one of my favourites.
Nature Babies wraps are good too, if you can get them, their Diddy Diapers they work well (and all made in UK)

Unfortunately Aldis nappies leak

villainousbroodmare · 22/09/2018 15:46

Frills out obv.

HerRoyalFattyness · 22/09/2018 15:46

I swear by sainsburys nappies.
Cheaper and IMO better than pampers.

Nellyelora · 22/09/2018 15:48

Generally speaking if a nappy is leaking then you probably need to move up to a bigger size. I found aldi newborn ones great but the next size up were rubbish. As were Boots and Asda nappies. Pampers were my favourite, we very rarely had any issues with them.

NerrSnerr · 22/09/2018 15:49

I agree that it depends on your baby. Different nappies suit different shapes. We use Tesco and Pampers and are fine for us.

CaptainCorrigan · 22/09/2018 15:49

I swear by Aldi but agree with pp that it depends on the shape and size of your baby to get the right fit. Sainsbury's held nothing at all for mine they just didn't fit right, and asdas were the same. I think I moved him up sizes much earlier than usual because he can wee for england!

CloudCaptain · 22/09/2018 15:50

Have you untucked the frills round the legs? I always used pampers.

cactusplant · 22/09/2018 15:50

Gnappies

Loops1987 · 22/09/2018 16:00

We found Aldi nappies leaked overnight so now stick to those in the day and use pampers premium protection for nighttime as they're expensive! We've had very few problems since.

Rosebud1302 · 22/09/2018 16:04

Thanks everyone. I am using size 3 Tesco which is 9lb up and he is just over 10lb. Yep penis down and frills definitely out. I should point out it is often poo leaks we have rather than wee. When he poos it is a lot and it always seems to touch the sides if that makes sense rather than sitting in the middle of the nappy?! Maybe my baby is just a big poo machine :)

Ours was born weighing over 10lbs and I think we found pampers best. Their digestive systems do gradually settle and become (slightly!) less explosive over time too, which helps!

JLG19 · 22/09/2018 16:08

The best ones we've found were Asda.

KeysHairbandNotepad · 22/09/2018 16:10

Asda , little angels. They've only leaked when I've needed to go up a size. Great price too.

Shabeth · 22/09/2018 18:10

Cloth nappies! Dd is 5 months We use terries and I've never had a leak, never had a nappy explosion, and no rash or anything.
Just take off rinse, wash and air dry it's so much easier than you think.

Autumnfairy82 · 22/09/2018 18:17

Pampers Premium Protection. Never had a problem and they’re always on offer in one of the supermarkets.

villainousbroodmare · 22/09/2018 18:47

If you are bf'ing, you will soon find that poop frequency reduces to one megashit about every 4-7 days. Which is nice.

DameSylvieKrin · 22/09/2018 18:51

The weight guidelines on nappies never fitted my dd. She’s quite a long baby. So when we had a leak we went up a size even if she was a few pounds under the limit. It has worked so far.

Fireballfriends · 23/09/2018 17:57

You probably need to go up a size once they start leaking. It took me months to realise this!!!
I have 3 kids, all average size, two with bum and thighs like tree trunks, one really slim and lean. They were all in the max size nappies by about 7 months old even tho they were nowhere near the weight guidance on the nappy packet.

El1995 · 23/09/2018 21:51

I use reusables during the day with an extra liner and tescos loves size 3 at night x
