Would you regularly straighten a 7 year olds hair ?

My 7 year old DD has really curly and really frizzy hair. It looks lovely when left loose but trying to get it in any kind of pony tail or tidy is a battle. Two plaits work the best But even then the front is a mass of curls and frizz.

We have figured out a routine but lately her hair seems to bother her - I should say at this point that she suffers from mild anxiety and worries a lot about what she thinks other think. She has been asking for her hair to be straightened so it doesn’t
Look “messy” -
I have only done it once before for her birthday party -Am worried doing it regularly will harm her lovely hair but at the same time
Don’t want her stressing about it so much.

Straightening is a no-no, especially nowadays. Depends how curly the hair is really. I'm black, with loose, longish frizzy hair. My son has curly hair. If he were a girl I know I'd have to rely on plaiting/braided styles because it's very tiring having to comb it out every day. But on the flip side, his hair is beautiful, so it's worth the work Smile

One good tip would be to develop a night time routine. Combing the hair out and plaiting/setting it the night before with a good nourishing moisturizer makes it easier to manage in the morning, and healthier looking. You shouldn't have to use product in the morning, and the hair doesn't look greasy or anything. My frizzy hair never looks great if I don't do anything the night before. I quite like the crinkles I can achieve when I undo plaits in the morning. I use Kera Care products, but something less heavy might be better. Shea Moisture/Mixed Chicks/Cantu have some good lighter products you could have a look at.

@JaySot500 thanks for the recommendations I will look them
Up and will try the night before routine.

I am glad my response of No has unanimous support. I never use any heat styling tools on my hair except for maybe a couple of time a year as my hair is quite fragile.
I found a few videos on YouTube of how heated styling can ruin hair and have shows it to DD - she is quite proud of hw much hair she has and is growing it long - its past her waist now - she seems to be on Baird wirh no heat Styling now so let’s
See. Turns out there is a 8
Year old in the after school
Club who straightened her hair and somehow managed to convince my DD that’s the only way for pretty hair Grin

It’s partly about managing her hair, but it’s also partly about building her confidence to embrace her natural beauty rather than starting to change her looks to fit in with social norms of what ‘pretty’ hair looks like. Sounds like you’re doing a great job OP

@Veterinari absolutely ! The only reason I even weakened for a moment is because
She suffers from anxiety (we see a counsellor for that ) and I know this time of the year is quite difficult for her wirh a new class, new teachers etc. She has gotten so
Much better at coping and am
So proud of her that I sometimes end up questioning every hard line I draw wondering if it really needs to be a hard
Line if you know what i mean ?

Oh show her the video of the girl straightening her hair and it burns it right off. That will put straighteners out of her mind!. Hang on, I'll find the video...

Florries · 22/09/2018 21:49
- hair curler - hair straighteners

There are loads of videos of is. Just type in hair straighter fail and there's compilations of it happening to people!
