DS is 3 and a half months so o wasnt expecting to have to cope with this yet. Hes clearly in agony and hands in his mouth as much as possible. Hes clingy and needy (as you would expect when he feels rubbish, i dont mind at all) so we're having loads of cuddles and hes getting whatever he wants. Teething granules and bongela only seem to have a mild impact so given him calpol today and plan to give him ibuprofen later but how many days can i do this for? It says no longer than 24 hrs on thr box but i cant believe he will be free from pain that soon

Same situation here I got what looks like a gum shield dummy (teething dummy) and it works well. Bit big but that kinda helps it stay in her mouth.

He doesnt seem to get the hang of those sadly.....do we really have to stop painkillers after only 24hrs?

At the worst mine had calpol for 3 or 4 days running and ibruprofen at night. I also ended up giving them ibruprofen before bed for a couple of weeks at a time when it wasn't bothering them during the day but hurt at night

@IheartCaptainHolt agreed . We did this with our DS , bad nights 3-4 days , when it was just minor I'd do 'dummy dips ' xx

It's horrible isn't it, my 18 month old has just cur his first 4 molars, HELL. We give nurofen and calpol at the same time 3 times a day at its worst, with lots of dentinox teething gel (brilliant stuff! Accidentally got some on my gum and it was really numb) People who don't use painkillers or teething gel are cruel.

Sweetiedarlingletmein · 20/09/2018 21:19

Try anbesol liquid. It really works to numb the area

Northernbeachbum · 21/09/2018 06:48

Thanks all, glad to hear others gave more pain relief. Will pop and get the other biys suggested. Hes so so tired from it too bless him as its keeping him awake overnight.

Really expected this to be a few months off yet, hes so little

My little boy is seven months and we're having a really bad few days teething I can feel them coming through so think he's actually cutting two.

When he was 3 months he had a week of pain and his gums really hardened during that time we used ambesol liquid throughout the day and calpol at night. He couldn't get the hang of teething toys at all or hold them properly as he's small.

We've got a cheeky chomper bib he will use and found it handy he can't drop it, he's not taken to any of the nuby teething toys we've got loads he much prefers shoving one of our knuckles in his mouth while having a cuddle.

Also rate the Aston's powders however didn't find them useful until over six months when the amount they can have significantly increases

Detinox gel is working better than the anbesol now too so I'd say give it a go as it's from birth

Teething is bloody horrible, I was up in the night last night with a very upset baby saying to husband I wish I could have toothache for him!

When they have a virus, temperature etc you give every day until it's gone even when going to the doctors if it's viral it's just paracetamol and ibuprofen recommended for a few days or even a week.

Don't be scared to give pain relief when you know your child needs it, I've found teething worse at night so use the liquid, gels, sachets, toys and distraction through the day then calpol at bed time.

Twinkie1 · 21/09/2018 07:14

Put Anbesol or bonjela on a baby toothbrush and let them chew it. It'll get exactly where the pain is and is nice to bite on when teething.

@CookPassBabtridge I couldn't agree more. Parents who put an amber bracelet on, I wonder if they'd wear a bracelet rather than take pain relief if they had toothache/wisdom teeth coming though. 🙄

Its overnight hes struggling here then hes shattered in the day. Hopefully not too long left before a break until next time poor thing
