Babies chronic wind

My DS is 12 wks old and has chronic wind, I have no idea what to do to help him anymore.

He is ebf and has had problems since he was 3 wks old but in the last week it had got a lot worse.

Poor baby had been up for the last 3 hrs, I have winded him, given gripe water and he just crunches up or fidgets with wind. He is so upset when I take him off my breast to try winding him again because he’s so desperate to sleep.

I can’t put him down because he just flails about and wakes up so the only chance he has of sleep is on me.

Does anyone have any tips or ticks to help? I’m at my whits end with how to help him, we do massage and cycle his legs all day, I carry and pat him LOTS, he has probiotics and gripe water but day by day it’s worse. He can’t get to sleep and doesn’t feed well sometimes because he back bends with wind, I pat him and pat him and nothing comes up. I feel so sorry for him.

You should take him to the doctor and see if they will prescribe you a stronger medicine than gripe water.

Also it may be worth trying an elimination diet yourself to check if he's reacting to something in your milk.

Sorry I never breast fed but do you stop and wind when feeding? I'm not sure if the same for bf.

I'd also try an elimination diet starting with diary. DS acted like this before being diagnosed with lactose intolerance. Cut out dairy and he's right as rain.

Thank you! Will call the doctors today and can definitely cut dairy, I have very little in my diet anyway.

I do wind but he sometimes gets upset when I take him off my breast to wind and he just wants to feed and sleep. Winding us probably a little uncomfortable for him too.

Infacol is very good at helping with wind - I would thoroughly recommend it - obviously alongside the other tips. Good luck xx

Infacol is good, DD had it before every feed for months. She used to do this thing of drawing her legs up and then bringing them down with a thump on the Moses basket mattress. Repeat for about 20minutes before she’d let rip a huge fart. And then start all over again. Every. Bloody. Night.

Stopped with Infacol but would start again as soon as we stopped it, so eventually we took her to a cranial osteopath. One appointment and it was sorted.

So actually, I’d just get her in to see a cranial osteopath.
