DC is five in a couple of weeks and still doesn't sleep past 6am, but he is markedly easier than he was at 8 months.
8 months is still very early days.
I think I noticed the biggest improvement in mine at 3 months (when he could finally have calpol, was born teething so utterly miserable until then), 6 months when he could sit up comfortably on his own and amuse himself for a short while, and 12 months when he could walk.
Then around 2 years when could articulate reasonably well, though that started at around 1, he got frustrated when we couldn't understand him.
Between 9 and 12 months was really tough, because he didn't seem to ever know what he wanted and seemed in a semi permanent strop.
He wanted to walk, but couldn't, and got himself very wound up very easily.
Now he's nearly five and just started reception he's actually shh don't say it too lously really easy.
He tidies up after himself, put his laundry in the basket, dresses and washes himself (with supervision with washing obviously), takes himself off to the loo and helps himself to snacks (after asking)
The baby/toddler years are hard.
But he's great company now
