Would you take to doctor?

FTM here, so I'm probably relatively paranoid. Ds will be 4 months old on Sunday. He's got a cold (I think), he was really disturbed through last night. We co-sleep and he usually just wakes for feeding and falls asleep right away but last night he kept waking crying with trouble breathing and would take ages to soothe. He just slept for about 2 hours (really unlike him, usually just catnaps) and is now having trouble feeding because his nose is so blocked. He feels a little hot but temp is normal. He also has a little cough.

I am not telling you what to do as I am not with the child or it’s parent, but from what you describe, I wouldn’t go to the doc. Sounds at this stage like a normal cold. Have you not taken his temp? That would be useful to know. You might want to try some calpol as he probably feels miserable even if there’s no temp.

Also not a doctor and please do go if you are worried but have you tried the saline nose spray? That helps a lot if they are stuffed up. If the breathing thing is more than just being stuffed up I would go to the docs though, for sure.

I wouldn't go to the GP unless he stays that way for a few days. Have you tried steam? Sitting in the bathroom with the shower going sometimes helps to unblock their tiny noses. We bought a humidifier when DD was a baby, that worked wonders.

Again not a doctor but it sounds like a normal cold to me so I personally wouldn’t go to the doctor.

It’s horrid when they are so small, I would keep an eye on his nappies to make sure he is having wet ones as normal and lots of cuddles, maybe a bit of Calpol.

Having said that we obviously can’t see him so if you are worried pop him to the doctors, they would rather see him if you are concerned.

Does sound like a cold, especially if no high temp. Like others have said, try some OTC medicines for him like snuffle baby, calpol plug in, baby olbas oil in a humidifier... honestly works wonders!

We're going through the same thing now with our almost 5 month old!
Been so stuffy for the past few days keeps waking herself up as she can't breathe, had a horrible night Friday as her temp wouldnt go below 38 but we got it down and it's stayed down. She's waking every hour upset :( what's helped for us is some baby olbus oil in a diffuser and some baby vicks on her chest at night. Fingers crossed they come out of it soon!
