Sleeping mattress

Hello,
I read it is advise to have your baby sleeping in the same room as parents in a Moses basket or a cot for the 1st 6 months.

I have a crib, which I will be able to put in our room, however the mattress in only 4 cm thick, and I have also read that it is preferable to have babies sleeping on a mattress of at least 10 cm thick. I have this for the cot but won't have the room for a cot in our bedroom.

Is it safe for baby to sleep on a 4 cm thick mattress for 6 month?

Thanks for your help.

I didn't even know there was a minimum tbh. I used whatever mattress came with the crib

Yes it will be fine.

www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/mattresses-and-bedding/ - I don't see thickness mentioned

It will be fine, but there's no way my babies could have slept in a Moses basket right up until they were 6 months, they were jst too big. We have a small bedroom so got a space saver cot.

Mine managed more than 6 months in a crib so don't worry about that.

As for the mattress, I wasn't aware of the thickness thing? Can you link to it?

It's a crib OP has.

Thanks everyone. Good to hear from others. I don't have a Moses but a crib so hope baby can be there for a little while. Although TBH I wouldn't think l to have baby in our room for 6 months but that's another debate.

Sorry OP. I hate it when people don't read threads properly!

It's not really a debate, the up to six months guidance. I believe It's based on evidence that more babies who sleep away from their parents die of SIDs than those who sleep in the same room. It's not about you being able to check on the baby but about the baby not being in total silence and forgetting to breathe.

This matters more than the thickness of the mattress.

DD slept in a moses basket for the first three months on a mattress that was only 3-4cm thick and seemed quite soft in comparison to the cot mattress. She seemed comfy though.

I'm not aware of any guidance regarding the thickness of the mattress, just that it should be firm and flat.
