Buying double buggy- second or third hand, wwyd?

Have found a icandy peach double buggy in great condition for £500, doesn’t have the carrycot so would need to buy this separately.
Or found one third hand, older model I think, but includes the carrycot for £275.
It’s grubbier and hasn’t been looked after that we’ll but it looks like it will do the job.
Ds is just turned 2 so I’m not sure how much longer he’d be in the buggy for anyway

I've got the Phil and teds dot... was only 400 pound new and converts to a single.

Is really smooth to push and you can pick them up second hand for 100-150 quid!

I also have a bugaboo cam3 with buggy board that I'm.trying to use more often as toddler is now 2 years 8 months. He's a runner though so i use reins too.

I've got a 20mo and a 3mo and haven't yet needed to use a double buggy. We've been offered a few secondhand by various friends with similar age gaps between children on the basis that they never really used them.

Much easier to navigate round shops etc with either the baby in a sling or the toddler on a buggy board.

I absolutely have absolutely loved my Phil and Teds. I have a 19 month age gap and don't drive so it really was essential for us. I paid £80 for it second hand and it's done thousands of miles!

Ah that’s interesting, I’ve only heard negative things about Phil and teds from friends- that they’re heavy and really hard to push around. Maybe I’ll look into those again.

Ds who’s 2 is definitely too young for a buggy board at the mo- there’s no way he wouldn’t try and escape along the main road! Also I loved my sling with DS but just want something that seats the 2 of them so they can be plonked in and out after toddler groups etc.

They both sound expensive. I don't have a double as didn't need one as had just less than 3 years between my 2 but see people selling doubles on Facebook groups for reasonable amounts quite often.

They’re definitely the higher end of double buggies and sell for over £1000 brand new with all the attachments so don’t think the prices are bad, just can’t work out which is better value for us

Better value is clearly the cheaper one.
Its function doesn't change because it is grubby.
You'll use it for what? 1 year, 18 months?

Mammyloveswine · 15/09/2018 16:24

They're expensive new but don't hold their value... you'd be better off getting a bugaboo donkey second hand for 4-500 quid and selling it on.

Cost doesn't equal.better quality either. Defintely research double pushchairs. I almost bought the Mothercare genie and so glad i didn't... a friend has one and it is massive and heavy to push, difficult to get up and down curbs etc.

The seats in the icandy are small, as is the oyster and egg (lovely doubles for twins but imo not great for toddler and baby).

Definitely go for Phil and teds, babyjogger double or bugaboo donkey.

Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a second hand pram. I know it depends on your circumstances and how much walking you will do.

I used my double buggy for the grand total of 4 months when DS2 was born. My eldest was also 2. He got to a point where he hated going in the pram, would kick, bang and complain when in it. Youngest would then start crying and hated being in it when his brother was in it, therefore defeating the purpose! We got an out an about nipper double for £150 and sold it on again for about £50.

and try online4baby.com, I got my single travel system by Hauck on there for under £200, and it's really good and also really lightweight
