DD 13 months coughing only during the night (in her sleep) and in the morning, no other symptoms (touch wood) no fever etc. However it has been going on for two weeks, I’ve tried vicks on the feet and cough syrups but nothing is shifting it. Not one to run to the gp over every sniffle but when is a cough going on too long at this age?

Could it be whooping cough? Has she been vaccinated?

MrsE87 · 14/09/2018 22:44

She could be a little asthmatic. My son has got it. He seemed to cough alot in the night aswell. He's alot better now he has a inhaler. Take her to Gp it's better to take her and it be nothing than to leave it and it gets worse..

Thanks both- yes vaccinations up to date so will take her just to be sure nothing more serious than a winter cough

Dust mite allergy?

CottonSock · 15/09/2018 13:21

My dd1 was terrible for this. She often ended up on antibiotics and with inhaler. Good news is that she did grow out of the worst of it by age 3.

We tried all sorts, from antihistamines, humidifier, propping up on pillows. Not much would make a difference, but they might be worth trying.

They don't like to diagnose asthma too early. Pre school wheeze it gets called.

Hopefully it's a one off.
I would see gp after 2 weeks

try a humidifier overnight, they work wonders for early coughs & wheezes, ours doubled up as a nightlight.

Unfortunately no pillows to prop up as only 1- humidifier is an option, though I spend my life trying to limit moisture in the house in winter due to rubbish double glazing with no vents. Dust allergy unlikely, she doesn’t cough at all in the day. Not helped that she sleeps on her front, but it’s the only way she can sleep.

I know what you mean, we have dehumidifiers and it felt ridiculous getting a humidifier! It's now unused in a box

I used a humidifier when DD was similar and honestly, it was amazing. Def worth a try
