What age did your child dress themselves?

My DS wouldn't dress himself until he was age 4. My friend's DS was dressing himself at 2! I thought my son must be lazy and he dresses himself with ease now (age 6) but my daughter is 3 and a half and doesnt seem interested in dressing herself either. She CAN do her socks and shoes but would prefer I do it. The rest she wont even try :-/ Is my friends DS the average age for dressing themselves or is 4 quite a common age? I realise every child is different but just wondered what is the most common age for this? Thanks :)

Mine have always started getting themselves dressed from about 2 and half. At that age they did need help. But we're very independent and wanted to do it themselves. When they are tired my 6, 4 and nearly 3 year old do like me to help them tho. But I do think 4 is a very common age some children going into school are still learning to dress and undress themselves for pe etc.

My DS was dressing himself with help from when we started toilet training, which was about 2.8. He’s 3.3 now and although he is capable of doing most of it, he needs to be supervised due to general faffing and messing about and he can’t do every item. I think he’ll be 4 before he can do it consistently

Posted too soon! (Got my DD on my lap)

I was expecting (and hopeful!) to get replies saying 2 is way too early to expect a child to be dressing themselves 😂 guess I have lazy kids! I keep trying to encourage but when you've got to get out the door for the school run it's difficult. My DS has to get dressed into his school unifrom before he's allowed downstairs for breakfast. Maybe I should try that with DD and see how she gets on.

My 2 girls, could dress reasonably well from about 2.5 (tights, buttons zips etc needed help, and getting things on the right way round).

Youngest isn't quite 3.5 but can fully dress herself (including zips etc)...actually getting her too sometimes is another thing.

Eldest is 4.75 and 100% self sufficent...was so from probably 3-3.5.

I have always just set out their clothes and told them to get on with it though. Bows, pictures etc on pants/vests etc helped us with the right way round thing.

DD from 3.5 but she would never choose to even now at 4.5 it was only that I had time on mat leave for the protestations that it became the norm.

Still need a a lot of chivvying and me present if more than t-shirt and leggings

Youngest is 3.2 and has been dressing herself for a while, maybe 6 months. She sometimes needs help with buttons etc.
DD1 is nearly 5 and obviously can (and does) dress herself but she’d still let me do it if I offered! She hates doing her socks.
