So I've decided to start using reusable nappies.. any tips for getting them dry in the colder weather? I'm wondering if I've wasted my money as two days since washing and they are still wet

I'd also like to hear people's tips!

I use bamboo inserts, which dry so slowly. I have enough to wash every other day, and have to hang them up near a radiator and then finish off with a hairdryer (!) at the end. Some people tumble dry I think.

Where do you dry your clothes? We have a utility room that is warmed by the boiler. I hang them in there. I don’t use little lambs, but I use a mix of micro fibre and bamboo nappies. The micro fibre are dry overnight. Some of the thicker bamboo ones take 24+ hours. It’s just a matter of finding the ones that work for you in terms of drying speed and absorbency.

Get a heated airier and put them in the drier
I know that it isn't recommended, but it didn't damage mine and helped me turn them around much quicker.

Thanks I've got a dri-buddy drier but can't fit many on there. I've had them in the conservatory but they are obviously not getting warm air, just a faff having them in the house as toddler likes to pull them off the airer

We have fan blowing on them. The air movement helps dry them and you don’t need to worry about a dryer damaging them.

Beansprout30 · 13/09/2018 14:43

@Isisizzie just a deskfan thingy? Not a heated fan?

OP posts:
Isisizzie · 13/09/2018 15:30

Yes just a normal desk fan

Beansprout30 · 13/09/2018 15:49

Thanks for the tip I will give that a go

For the 2 parter LL, the nappies can go in the dryer on low heat to speed up drying. Many also swear by having a dehumidifier in the same room as the drying line in winter to speed it up.

Personally, we have a combination of fast and slow drying nappies plus combination of AIOs and pockets so in winter, the pocket inserts go in the dryer and the fast drying ones are dry within 16ish hours on the line and are used more frequently.

Pissedoffdotcom · 13/09/2018 17:30

We only use LLs now. As its coming colder we use the tumble on low heat if we're desperate or we air dry from the curtain poles in front of an open window. We use those sock airer things, usually if we leave them during the day then overnight they're dry & ready to rock & roll. Once you start using your heating hang them over the radiators on those special airer things.

Buy more cheap on eBay so you have plenty of drying time

We have an open porch - a bit like a carport so protected from rain but gets to blow in the wind

Try mircofibre little lambs for the daytime as the dry very rapidly (you can always boost with a bamboo insert if you need them to last a bit longer.

cakesandphotos · 13/09/2018 20:00

Dehumidifier would help. I dry mind on a ceiling pulley above the stairs. All the warm air rises so they dry pretty quick. I dry inserts and liners on the radiator

PhilomenaButterfly · 13/09/2018 20:02

I used to dry them on radiators.

GoodbyeSummer · 13/09/2018 20:12

We used to spin them in the spin dryer and then put them on the radiators. They seemed to dry fairly quickly. We had loads of them too so were never without.

Beansprout30 · 13/09/2018 20:46

Thanks everyone I might try any get a few more to keep a good rotation going. My dh isn't going to be happy with constant nappies hanging everywhere!

Beansprout30 · 13/09/2018 20:47

I must say, I've only been using them properly for one day but I do love them and the thought of saving what I would normally have chucked into landfill

OP posts:
Pissedoffdotcom · 13/09/2018 21:59

If you can put them on an extra spin in your washing machine once washed too. Definitely does help. Having a big enough stash to rotate is definitely a godsend too

Mummyme87 · 13/09/2018 22:01

LL take forever to dry. Milovia pockets are great as dry within a couple of hours

Mumof1DS · 14/09/2018 14:41

Keep your little lambs for night as they are so absorbant. Buy some more for day time use. Little blooms from Amazon are a good budget nappy but order with a bamboo insert. If you don't mind spending a little more pet nappy, Bambino Mio all in ones are a great daytime nappy and dry much faster.

Beansprout30 · 14/09/2018 20:43

Thanks for the recommendations, I will perhaps get some others for daytime then. I'm a bit worried about using them at night, DD gets quite wet in the day

I have a question too, is the fleece liner supposed to go next to the skin? Or between booster and nappy?! Blush

OP posts:
Pissedoffdotcom · 14/09/2018 21:09

Liner goes next to the skin. It wicks liquid away from the skin so acts as a stay dry layer 🙂

Re night time, my DS outwets most pocket or AIO nappies. He wees like a racehorse! We use bamboo LL size 2s so they have the stitched in booster, then i put an LL size 1 booster underneath that then my liner. Outside the nappy then i put another booster folded at the front, then the wrap. Works a treat, we have never had a leak & he can go up to 12 hours in one that way 🙂 we have to use two parters permanently because of the amount he wees, so if you have a heavy wetter don't spend too much on other types until you know they work. I bought totsbots easyfits as loved them with DD but had to sell them in the end because we can't boost them enough

Beansprout30 · 15/09/2018 20:52

Prefolds dry quicker as they are thinner

Blue25654 · 16/09/2018 21:59

I just put on airer with dehumidifier next to it same as clothes. Little lambs were my favourite.
