Help with colic

My nearly 7 week old baby girl is so bad with colic, that bad she was inconsolable for 1 and 1/2 hours last night wouldn’t be soothed screaming making herself so upset she has had colic since being 2 weeks old she’s also constipated and straining to go :( I rang 111 for advise as she also broke out in a rash. Did glass test etc and disappeared. Anyway they booked us in at out of hours dr ‘s appointment at the hospital and the dr was absolutely useless and so rude, said the rash was eczema without even examining it when I questioned this he told me it’s his opinion and if I didn’t like it I could go round to a&e for another! Her temp heart rate was ok and he’s given us solution for the eczema what’s not even eczema I think more of a heat rash as it’s now gone. Also lactalous to help her go to toilet but nothing for colic which I know is the main culprit of her being this way :( we are buying colief at 11.99 for 7ml every week, she’s had gripe water, infacol and we also give her the dentinox. But surely the dr’s Should be able to help her it seems a bit extreme and surely there is something they give her :(

If none of those colic relief remedies have worked, how are you sure it's colic?

Book in with your actual GP surgery in daytime and take her back. It could be any number of things, rather than the colic. Including but not limited to reflux or CMPA. See your own GP and get a second opinion.

Google 4th trimester and purple crying to get a bit more of an insight into normal newborn behavior. We are, naturally, very quick to assume that things are wrong with our babies when actually we don’t really know. Wind is normal - we all have it! It’s about babies getting used to the feel of their bodies digesting milk which they haven’t had to do for 9 months. It’s interesting to read how many people experience similar things with their babies and report that infacol, colief , gaviscon etc etc don’t work. Maybe because it’s a different problem to fix?

I post this link a lot but I think it is highly worthy of consideration.

Thanks and I totally agree it could be something other than colic I’ve been to the dr twice now who has told me it’s colic, I’ve thought maybe it could be intolerance to something in her milk, silent reflux etc I’m calling them again today as sick of being fobbed off now!
And I’ll check the link thanks

My DD was not as bad as you describe but we did having severe evening fussiness.
We were using cow and gate comfort but this made her really gassy and I think probably caused her fussy ness. I took advice from mums net and a friend and they suggest hmm changing the milk - I am now using HiPP organic and there is a big improvement with gassy ness. I’m not saying this is the answer for you and you might want to speak to HV before changing anything but I couldn’t read your story and not suggest this. We use Mam bottles too - I really rate them. My friend swears by Dr Browns. Good luck, you’re clearly doing a fabulous job caring for baby. It’s so hard, big hugs Xxx

My son had awful colic, if he wasn't asleep he was screaming. All day. We tried everything. The comfort milk made it worse in our case. I gave up with HV and doctors and We moved him on to hipp organic normal formula and he improved with a day or so. We also used dentinox in his bottles. Other things are distraction, so use the tiger in the tree hold and walk around with them, colic massage, bath in evening when crying peaked. Also look up wonder weeks app, it explains a lot with regards to growing and stages, and explains a lot of their behaviour. The rash could be from screaming, mine frequently broke out if he was having a screaming fit. You can try baby aveeno for eczema it works for us. Hope this helps in anyway, I understand how you feel but it does passFlowers

My little man used to cry terribly with gas pains during and after feeding, the rash you are describing may be cmpa. I was told my ds didn't have this as he wasn't vomiting and didn't have a rash. ... How wrong they were!!! Now on neocate (no cows milk) and have a super chilled happy baby, hasn't cried hysterically for weeks ...

guiltynetter · 11/09/2018 09:22

what is the rash like? my DD got a red, pin prick type rash on her face, arms and legs at 6 weeks which was a symptom of CMPA for us. her crying fits were much longer though (often from 2.30-midnight)

Hi

Just got back from the doctors he thinks she has a intolerance to the milk I’m giving her bless her. She’s been so upset screaming all day so given some baby milk to try her on. Hope it works.

And the rash looks like a heat rash
