DD1 has been looking at these and cloth nappies? She’s not got many parent friends so doesn’t know anyone that’s used them.

I have just bought a pack for the first time.
have used a mix of nappies including regular disposables from pampers, aldi, tesco etc, 'eco' disposables e.g. these and naty nature and reusables.
tend to use disposable overnight and at nursery and reusables at home. I struggle a bit with wanting to do the right thing eco wise but find disposables much more convienent.

so far I like kit and kin. I'm not very clued up eco credential wise but the promise of 3-4 years to biodegrade sounds amazing compared to regular disposables.

performance wise they are similar to other eco friendly ones. as in work pretty well and seem to hold alot and they don't have the chemical smell of some disposables but can smell a bit wee like when wet.
my baby is nearly 1 now so work great on the more solid poos but I suspect we may have had many leaks in the newborn days when every poo caused an explosion.

I do however think they are very pricey and really wish they were available cheaper as I would use them as my go to disposable for nursery/holiday etc with reusables used at home but I think if my dh found out how much they cost he would refuse to get them Grin

I have just started with reusables and I'm really happy with them. They are so much easier and prettier than the old Terry nappies. A lot of younger people are choosing them because of the environment.

Hi,
I use cloth nappies. Started by borrowing a loan box from our local nappy library, who also gave demos & great advice. Depends where you are but there might be something similar locally. Most have a Facebook group I think.

I've been using Kit & Kin since my baby was born. She is now 12 weeks old and they have been great. A handful have leaked but that's been down to me putting them on in a rush or if it has been a poo explosion that no brand of nappy could contain! For me I love the fact they are kinder on my baby's skin - she has never had nappy rash. They are a little pricey but you get what you pay for. I am signed up to the monthly subscription with the wipes included - I'm not as sold on these as they are quite thin and therefore I have to use quite a lot per change and always run out mid month.

Just remember that things take a lot longer to decompose in real landfill conditions, so cloth is better from that point of view. Most people use a mix I think, we use cloth in the day and disposable at night.

You can also buy second hand cloth nappies quite cheaply which is a good way to try out a few different types and see what works for baby.

We really get along with Mio solo

Creatureofthenight · 10/09/2018 20:50

I really like them but found they couldn’t cope with DDs overnight wees, so have ended up using them just for daytime and normal disposables at night.

If she’s looking into eco options Cheeky wipes might we worth a look at.. good way to keep wipes out of landfill

We clothed from birth with DS (11 weeks) and can honestly not recommend it enough. We spent about £150 on preloved nappies (i knew what i wanted as used them with DD for a while) & have just now had to upsize at £50 cost...but have made that back selling my smaller ones.
Super easy to use, better for bums, better for the environment. Cloth nappy libraries are the bomb, they will help with any questions & have kits to test them out.

Pissedoffdotcom · 10/09/2018 21:04

Also second cloth wipes. I recently did a post on FB for my nappy library about nappies & wipes where i compared my nappy/wipe usage to a friend with dc similar age in disposable. The number of wipes they used compared to our cloth was unreal because disposable wipes seem to smear poo more. Cloth wipes - especially terries - clean so much better. My mate couldnt be persuaded to use cloth nappies as she likes the convenience of disposable but she did swap to cloth wipes

Why are there so many threads on Kit and Kin right now? I think someones trying to advertise....

I used their reusable nappies off the back of a MN thread like this, and they were APPALLING. They leaked so much. They're sat at the back of a wardrobe right now.

Their biodegrable ones were ok though. Didnt seem to get any leaks.

The same poster posted identical messages saving negative things about the brand on 9 different zombie threads.

MN have said they have now banned the user.
