Teething??? Please help!!!

Hello

I would appreciate all the help and advice possible!

I am a first time mother so I am trying to learn as I go!

My daughter is almost 4months now and I suspect that she is going through teething however I am so frustrated as I am not 100% sure and every time I go to the doctors they never give me a diagnosis or clear confirmation so I'm just left guessing and worrying!!

So I thought the best people to ask are experienced parents as well as new mothers whose little ones are going through what I am!

So my LO started to drool excessively since 2months but with no pain she was still very comfortable at this point I didn't think it was teething.

Then in the last two weeks (so 3 and half months) many other symptoms were added on to the drooling such as:

Red flushed cheeks that come and go

Constantly chewing her fingers and fist and anything she can get a hold of and trying to bite her gums

More irritable during the day and crying during the night with poor sleep waking up often in discomfort

Looks in pain and discomfort when it happens in waves

Poor feeds (breastfeeding) cries after a few sucks

A bit of runny poo

And lastly constantly pulling, tugging, rubbing, furiously scratching her ears

Please can someone confirm to me whether these are definitely symptoms of teething at 3 months plus??

Also please can someone confirm to me whether the constant pulling and rubbing of the ear in pain is apart of teething??

All advice and help appreciated! Thank you!

Everything you describe is normal teething symptoms OP - the pain tends to be worse before the teeth appear. Anbesol liquid is really soothing, both DSes liked it.

Bananarama12 · 10/09/2018 09:31

Nurofen is really good for teething pains and anbesol liquid as pp said.

Mimi2018 · 10/09/2018 09:39

Thank you both!

When will the teeth appear? How long will baby go through this for as I can't bare to see her like this anymore?

I have frequently given calpol and neurofen however I find that the neurofen has no effect and only the calpol eases things off for her a bit

So the ear pulling is normal and associated with her teething?

Teeth might take months to appear, or they could appear tomorrow. The ear pulling is normal, I'm afraid, DS1 did it lots, DS2 didn't do it at all.

Mine did lots of ear pulling which I did take to the doctor for just to check it wasn't an ear infection. 10 months DS here still only has 2 bottom teeth and they took aaaaaaaages and lots of tears.

BigFatCurlyHeadedFuck · 10/09/2018 12:21

My ds has just cut his first two teeth this week and he is four months, so it could in theory be any time now.

ShackUp · 10/09/2018 12:21

OP teeth sometimes take ages to appear. A friend's LO had no teeth whatsoever until 18 months (unusual!!). You might find the symptoms ease off a bit and start again, it's a very stop-start process.

I used Teetha granules for my kids and it worked brilliantly. It has camomile so calmed them right down and eased the pain.
I even used it at other times when they were sick or upset.

My dd was doing all this from 3 months, she didn't get her first tooth till 10 months. You just have to rude it out I'm afraid.some of the things like drooling a biting hands could just be developmental as well. My 10 week old has just discovered his hands and he loves to chew them.

Limpshade · 10/09/2018 12:27

Mine did this at 4 months, it came and went from day to day until the first tooth popped through at 6 months! It was definitely the tooth causing the issues, since I could see it under the gum. Happy to report though that as soon as the teeniest bit had come through, the teething symptoms stopped - PPs are right in saying it's the bit before the tooth that hurts. Bonjela really worked for mine - I didn't use Nurofen unless it was getting out of hand since otherwise she'd have been on it for 2 months straight! And the first was the worst for me - even now we are at 2 years and getting the last of the molars!

HelenMummyof2 · 10/09/2018 13:01

I agree sounds like teething for sure! My DD is 3.5 months and is going through similar. She was clearly in pain last night so I gave her a bit of a calpol and this helped her. Good luck

boopdoop · 10/09/2018 15:34

Totally sounds like teething. Regular calpol / neurofen when it's bad, teething granules (Nelsons, or boots own brand) anbesol liquid is amazing (not gel), cold things to chew.. someone suggested damp muslin in fridge, or teething toys, though she might be too young to hold very well, Sofie the giraffe is quite good for them when they can't hold things well. But if you are worried it's an ear infection instead of teething then do get it checked out b by doctor.

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/09/2018 16:13

Anbesol liquid, neurofen (or any baby ibuprofen), teething granules, teethers, could also get them an ice lolly

Mimi2018 · 11/09/2018 15:46

Thank you so much ladies!

Can someone tell me where I can get ambersol liquid from I can't find it anywhere?

Also I have been giving LO calpol nearly everyday for last two weeks as she's in pain and I imagine this will continue until it stops is this safe??

Thanks!

I wouldn't advice giving paracetamol over an extended period to such a young baby unless on advice from a Dr. People see paracetamol as harmless but it really isn't. Boots tend to have a good stock of teething stuff, the granules are good as well. If you really think she is in serious pain and not just discomfort, then you need to speak to your GP and HV. Cold things for her to chew on will help as well.
