Job interview next week and I am struggling to prepare - any pointers

Its for a promotion so I really want it (and need it financially)

I am just struggling having been off work for 13 months and chasing an 11 month old. I have no access to work stuff so am trying to remember what I can Sad I have prepared a presentation I need to learn but am stressing over the interview questions.

I have also got to broach a way to try and keep my lovely office hours despite wanting to step up 😬

Any pointers please

What type of questions are they? Competancy based?

Jellybabie3 · 07/09/2018 19:54

Its general questions I am worried about. I know the job enough. Its the 'tell me about a time...' ones i cant think of ways to answer

Prepare STAR answers:
Situation - what happened
Task - what did you need to achieve
Action - what did you do
Result - what was the outcome

Do this with examples for everything listed in the job description

Jellybabie3 i have recently got a new job after a series of interviews ( and being unsuccessful twice!)
The thing that I worked hardest on was exactly what you are finding tricky - 'tell me about a time when' and I used the format Pp mentioned . It made such a difference having those prepared rather than fumbling for examples!
I used the JD to work out what areas they would be most likely to ask about and then worked on my strongest examples .
Took ages but was worth it as came away knowing I had given my strongest examples possible . Good luck !

I'm on mat leave atm and recently had an interview for a promotion for when I start back at work next month. I felt similar to how you feel but was honest when I went in about feeling rusty (not about the job but about life in general!) and actually surprised myself how easily I slipped back into 'professional' mode.
I got the job and start next month. I'm nervous but I've been honest, that's all we can do!
Good luck :)

Ah ok so you mean the kind of 'what are we looking for bit' or even sections about what the job will be doing? Thats alot to do before hand gulp....

Bring some good stories with you.
Think about when you put your (not your team's) skills at work and solved any issue or improved any process. Show off the results.
I've learned at building narratives from real-world examples at starstorytelling.com
Good luck!

Hi OP - if your experience is all bang on and up to date you might be better then I was on the spot - I found I really needed the time to think about my best stories .
As PP said it really is about stories but I found I couldn't wing it .
How long do you have to prepare ?
I know it's a cliche but no preparation I did was wasted it made me calm and confident .
Good luck
