Holiday to New York with 16 week old baby

Hi,

My husband and I are taking our 16 week old baby on holiday to New York next month. Does anyone have any advice or tips for travelling with a baby this age? He is breastfed so no need for bottles etc.

Thanks

Best age! Portable, don't have to worry about actual food, and they sleep anywhere! Just do all the things you want and baby will have a lovely time too 😊

Everyone tells you to feed on take off and landing, but my kids didn't seem bothered. Take spare clothes for your baby AND you on the flight. On every flight with my children as babies, they vomited on me 😬

I found breastfeeding made overseas trips SO much easier.

Sling or carrier for the airport and getting onto the plane once you hand buggy/ pram over especially as it doesn't usually come back until luggage return which is a PITA when you have a baby to carry.

My tip would be to book a room with a balcony or some kind of separate space (or serviced apartment / air b n b) so you can have somewhere to go when your baby goes to sleep - otherwise you may end up whispering together in the dark!

Also don’t plan to do too much - we aimed for one or two things a day. You will need to factor in feeding stops etc.

Er, the fee to get in the Met is optional. You can donate $5 if you like.

I disagree with PP - do try and time a feed so that when you're landing he doesn't get that pressure change earache. BIL knows someone whose baby got a punctured eardrum from that. The screaming at the time must have been hell. It varies from person to person.
Agree that 16 weeks is probably the best age for doing this. He's not going to complain about going to museums/galleries/shops, he'll be a great ice breaker with strangers and he probably still sleeps a fair bit. Personally, even though we had an ergo, I still travelled with a car seat and the pushchair frame which it fitted on to. Found it useful for taxis and those times when you want to be a bit more free, eg sitting eating, and for carrying bags, but obvs not good for when you're on an escalator. It wasn't hard getting it on a plane (they took it away at boarding, you collect it from the baggage reclaim) and airlines usually have some sort of deal on baby equipment.
