Hi everyone, I had a baby 3 days ago and I'm breastfeeding, but I'm having problems, the baby can be like 1h or more in each breast and he still crying because still hungry.... so i tried to pump out some milk and give to him so I can see how much he actually eat but nothing comes out.... so I guess when he sucks it doesn't come out the milk or not enough... it's frustrating because he is all day on my breast and still hungry all the time...
So I went to buy some formula, but idk how much I should give him. He is 3 days old and weight 3kilos 850grams.
How much ml of water should I use and how often should he eat?
Thanks Smile

Baby is cluster feeding! It's really hard work, but roll with it. It's a normal process to help your milk supply. So long as baby is getting wet and dirty nappies, and putting on weight at his check ups, then he's getting plenty. You're doing great! Congrats on the baby x

@isu4 Congratulations on your new LO Thanks

The baby is just building up your supply, please don’t worry. You can’t measure how much baby is getting by expressing, the baby will be much more efficient at getting the milk out than you will with a pump Smile

There’s some info here on Kellymom on what’s mormal for a newborn and if you wantcsone more reassurance, I’d call one of the Breastfeeding Helplines this evening.

Hi thanks for your answer :) the thing is that he isn't having wet or dirty nappies... he just had a wet nappy this morning at 10am not poop tho..Sad nothing else in all day..

If you're wanting to continue bf I would suggest calling your midwife or yeh hospital you delivered at (if baby was born in hospital) and asking if they can get a lactation consultant to come out and offer some support. If you are wanting to continue I wouldn't offer formula unless advised by a medical professional as this will interfere with your supply. Also may be worth getting in touch with your local la Leche league for some support. They usually have a group on Facebook.
If you do still want to go ahead with the formula the suggested amount will be on the side of the tub.
Honestly though what you've described sounds completely normal for day. Just feed feed feed as much as possible and your supply will soon increase.
