My DD has not long started coming out with comments that I have never said (single parent dad not involved) and wouldn’t imagine her saying .... too smart for her own good?

Long story short she’s been going to nursery for the past 2 years so I could return to work ... well for lunch today I’ve done her a mix of everything ... a sandwich, peanuts, cheesestrings, flapjack, couple of biscuits and some fruit ..... well she’s asked for more peanuts which is fine but she hadn’t touched her sandwich with me telling her she put out her hand and touched it then proceeded to tell me she had in fact touched her sandwich.... is this really what a 3 year old is like? Smartass comments? It was her birthday a couple of weeks ago so it’s not like she’s nearly 4.

Not so much smartarse, more literalism. If you'd said "You haven't eaten your sandwich." , then she would have understood what you meant.
Most three year olds don't do subtle nuances of polite grammar.
But yours might be the exception..... Grin

She’s not being a smartarse; she’s 3 and taking you literally. If you told her she needed to pull up her socks over something, she’d do just that.

My 3 Yr old DD is much the same and the little smile on her face and the look she gives me along with the comments is definitely sarcasm more often that taking things literally.

Ah yes the literalism of a 3 year old. Perhaps best I don't go into detail about what happened on the walk home from the childminders today when my DS decided he needed a poo and I told him he'd just have to hold it til we got home ....

TheActualLastJedi · 03/09/2018 20:51

I've managed to raise an overly sarcastic smart arse...he is the grand old age of 4! 😱🙈

The other day he squashed play doh in to the carpet and I merely said " who has done this?" He replied "who do you think? Play doh fairy....duhhh!!"

I didn't know what to say and just replied " alright, was only asking?!"

He just glared at me...

The joys of small children 🤷, I wouldn't worry too much OP she's probably just "developing her personality" or is a very literal person.

When DSS was about that age we were at the park (behind our house) and he needed the toilet. We were just leaving so I asked if he could hold it in until we got home...he grabbed his crotch and said "like this?". 😂

So glad there are other DS and DD that do much the same .... another time she was jumping on the sofa around 3-4 months ago so I told her if she breaks it she’s gotta pay for it ... as a joke obviously .... the reply I got back tho I couldn’t believe .... she said it’s ok mummy I’ll get you new one lol couldn’t help but laugh
