Am I overdressing my baby for sleeping?

This subject has probably been done to death but here goes anyway..

My little girl is a week old tomorrow, we got home from hospital Wednesday. I'm a first time mum so I'm just anxious I've out too many layers on, but I've only out on what I was told to put on whilst in hospital.

She is 5lb 6oz and get clothes at
are a bit big, the room temp is 25° and the little window is open, she has a light blanket, sleepsuit and vest on. Is this too much? In the hospital we were told to put on a hat on top of this!

Any advice is appreciated Smile

That sounds fine. You could probably do without the vest if she feels hot. Have you felt her tummy and back of neck to see how warm she is? Definitely don't put a hat on her. They are much better too cold than too hot.

Room temp 25?
I’d lose the blanket-and probably the vest tbh. Just sleepsuit and a thin sheet if you feel there needs to be a “layer” on top.
It gets easier- and less stressful- promise Smile
Congratulations

That sounds fine, I don’t think she needs the hat if the room is 25 degrees. If in doubt always ere on the side of too cold as too hot can dangerous. Stick you hand down her front/back or zap her with one of those digital thermometers if you’re worried.

Definitely no hat

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 01/09/2018 23:37

The hat is only for whilst they are in hospital- not at home.
I was told at that age, dress them in more layer than you do yourself.

No hat.

10wo DC2 is in a vest and a sleep suit and a heavy cotton blanket.

We live in an old house with thick walls and temp in the evenings is around 20 degrees with the heating on.

Either vest and blanket, or no vest but babygro.

25’ is warm, so not much needed.

ohfourfoxache · 01/09/2018 23:42

I seem to remember that you need to dress them in the same sort of thing that you would wear, + 1 layer. So if you sleep in nightclothes + have a duvet, they need the equipment + a vest

But just check the back of the neck to gauge temperature, your gutfeeling will be right

Thanks everyone. Some quick responses :). Oh definitely no hat, even in hospital she just wriggled out of them ha!

I'm forever feeling her tummy/chest, it's warm and dry, although I keep thinking it's hot and my mum reassures me she's warm and right! I did take think about taking the best off but she's so tiny that the sleepsuit is so loose and then her chest is on display so I thought she might get too cold. I've whipped the blanket off and she seems content, I just worry sick. Do you think this will be okay?

I could never have imagined worrying about someone so much until this little one arrived! She makes my heart swell!
