...erm, DS seems to be potty trained and I wasn't even trying. What now?

OK it's probably too early to get smug, but he was in the garden all day today, running around with no clothes on as it was so warm, so I got the potty out and gently suggested he used it. For the rest of the day he did all his wees (about 12!) and poos (3) in it, without any prompting. No accidents, no fuss although he was quite pleased with himself.

He's 23 months and although I was vaguely thinking we might try training this summer I wasn't prepared for him doing so well at the first attempt!

So...what now? Is it likely to be a one-off or do I need to stop using daytime nappies outright now? what does he wear instead? do I need to buy absorbent pads for the car seat? travel potties? I'm clueless.

since you're on a roll you could ask him if he wants to wear 'big boy pants' instead of nappies and prepare yourself for a few accidents over the next few days. if he's still having a lot of accidents after a few days id go back to nappies for a while. Put a plastic bag in his car seat and a towel on top.

I think you can safely say he's ready for potty training - many children are ready before the age of 2!

You need to buy him some underpants. Be prepared that even though he is clearly ready for pants, he will still have the occasional accident - all part of the learning process and not a reason to put him back in nappies.

I used pull ups for my dds until I was confident that they would use public loos.

and well done your ds!

DD did it by herself pretty much too. She was 24 months. She took the lead and I merely followed. By day 3 there were no more wet pants or floor

Big boys pants tomorrow and go for it. You'll know in a day or two if he is really potty trained or if it was a one off and he isn't interested.

wahey! off we go to the shops for big boy pants tomorrow! And thanks for the plastic bag/towel tip. I'm so proud of him!

Buy a bigger size up for the pants than you normally do. When they are a bot baggy they are easier to pull up and down in a hurry for him.

You lucky thing, dd is 2 years 5 months and we had a day to try it out, we used all of her trousers had about ten accidents and no successes so decided to leave it for a while and try again some other time!
