IS it possible that a newly training almost three year old boy can hold wee for three hours?

We are only on day three of training and he is fine at home - potty in middle of room and he goes when he needs to. We were out for three hours this afternoon. He weed before we went out. Then I kept taking him to the toilet and sitting him on the portable potty all afternoon. He never did anything. Me and ds1 went twice in that time! As soon as we got home, he sat on potty and did a wee. Is it possible he was actively holding it all that time? Or was it a fluke? I thought children who were newly potty training had to get to the toilet fast.

Sounds like a little star!

Yes, I was pleased, but I am wondering if it is fluke or not. I would love to be able to be out and about with him and just go to the toilet when we pass one rather than carrying the bloody potty around and constantly worry abotu him needing to go. We are off to the Natural History Museum tomorow and I was going to put a nappy on him for the bus ride but now I am wondering whether I need or not. There is no way I am getting the potty out on the bus, but if he is actually holding it in, then I would be ook. But is he?

no I don't think that's a fluke, i think that's perfectly normal.

Don't put a nappy on him. It sounds like he's doing great and that would give confusing messages. I'm sure he'll manage the journey if you go at all possible opportunities! Good luck.

I don't think it was a fluke I think it indicates that you have waited until exactly the right time to potty train. Ds is 2.10 and we have been training him for a month now and he did exactly the same on day 4 and now regularly will go for half a day and hold it in.

Well done to your little ds!

Lol! My ds1 has a massive bladder. I go a few times for his one time. When we go out I can ask him to go before we leave the house and then he will often not need to go while out and about. And if he says he doesn't need to go, I can trust that he really doesn;t. Well, I will try to go for it tomorow then. And I will take lots of paper towels with me. We will be sitting at the very front of the bus on the top deck (we get on first stop) so I reckon that in an emergency i could probably get away with putting a potty down with no-one noticing. Not that I want to though!

My DD is the same. I started to pottytrain her a week after her 3 year birthday and she could/ still can hold for 3-5 hours without going to toilet.
She can go to toilet at 19HOO (she sleeps without nappy) and sometimes she does not go to toilet intil 10-11 in the morning, even though she is awake at 7. she says and fine I did it yesterday .
My DS is just turned 2 and he also goes 2-3 hour without "doing pee pee" which ofcourse is wonderful. I just went out and about with my DD and hoped that she would tell me if she needed the toilet, and so far so good. So the best of luck for me

Yes, DS is the same. To begin with he was quite unreliable as it was really hot weather when I started p/t and he was drinking lots, but when it cooled down I realised he could hold for ages.

He's 3.2 now and goes 3-4 times a day on average.

I go about 8-10 times, so I've given up asking him when i go when we're out, now!

I have to say he doesn;t drink huge amounts, eitehr, and never has done, but his wee is always quite pale so I don't worry.

Incidnetally DH has a camel's bladder too, so I think it's hereditory.

Not a fluke, my 3 year old can hold wee for 3 hours too.

Now if he could just hold the damn poo until he was at a toilet or potty

Well, that is all good news! Wish me luck for tomorow!

Now if only I could night train my eldest. He will be 6 in July and shows no sign of ever being night trained. In fact, my husband and I were both saying today that there is no doubt my youngest will be night trained before his big brother!
